I will be designing an entire wedding stationery suite for a wedding I will be attending in April. The wedding is in Punta Cana so I have been doing some research on the venue. This will be helpful to me since I will be designing the invitations, cards, menu, etc. before the actual wedding. I have scheduled myself to work on my project every Thursday night after work, as well as anytime I can throughout the week. Dedicating a specific time each week to work, will help me stay on track and not fall behind.

I spent some time finding the main font that I wanted to use for the invitations. I put together a small mood board/collage of the fonts and colors I have chosen to use (see below). I love the look of the main front. Script fonts are my favorite, especially if they are handwritten. I find that it really adds a personal and softer touch to any layout.

Earlier this year, I took engagement photos for the couple. I uploaded a field my favorites that I might use for this save the date card. I'd love to have anyone feedback! Finally, I have actually started to work on the first section of my magazine and while it is far from finished I have at least got a good start on it.

This coming week I plan to work more on the first two sections of my magazine and try to make them look good and everything. I also plan to work on the cover page and maybe one of the ads.

It is unacceptable on my part. On week three February 6th first thing in the morning before I went to work at 9am, the men of my church held a breakfast at Applebees for a fundraiser for the mean of the church to go on retreat in May. So I covered about 45 minutes of the event by taking pictures of the men that were helping with sitting, waiting the people that attended, some of the men in the kitchen preparing the drinks, butter and so forth. I also captured some video as well.

On February 10th I attended a surprise wedding for a couple at our church and I was the photographer on duty most of the time. I captured the before the wedding, and after the wedding plus the reception. So I have an idea to incorporate what I captured into my project with the few people that put this wedding together. I have nothing to show for it in the week four discussion because I did not try to build of of that yet in any type of design yet. Once I figure out how to show everyone. I will have it up in the week four and five discussion!

I actually wrote out a series of school advice beforehand myself based on the own experience of school. Then I took what I have written and created the section in the magazine with it. I actually really like my design for this section though I'm definitely open to suggestions if anyone has any criticisms. I'll be including a screenshot of the section at the bottom of this post for people to see. 

I also made some changes to the magazine based off of the feedback that I received from the show and tell and other sources. For instance, I changed the backround color from a red to a more calming blue and I think it looks much better. I also changed the font for the main text to a more condensed font as was suggested.

Finally, my last class for block 1 is this Thursday and then comes reading week so I won't have any other homework besides my senior project for the coming week. So I should be able to get even more work done in a week than I usually am able to. I also placed an article that someone wrote for my magazine into the magazine. The article itself is about the writer's experience with getting diagnosed and their feelings on it. The article wasn't long enough to cover two pages so I have decided to place it before one of the ads.

Finally, the last thing I worked on was the magazine's cover page. I used a font called apple chancery for the text. And for the cover image I used a picture known as autisticat. Autisticat is a popular image that was introduced in the autism community about a year ago to be a symbol of the community. The reasoning behind it is that a lot of people say that cats and autistic people are similar. Finally I revamped my cover page and I think it looks a lot better now. Since the color scheme of the wedding is pink and grey, I decided to go with a pink tropical flower image that sorta looks like a watercolor painting. I think that by adding the flowers, it really pulled the invitations together as a whole. I will be adding slightly different variations of the flowers to most of the designs. Finally, the last thing that I did this week was to put in another article that someone had written for my magazine.

Now I am just trying to get through the waiting game, since the wedding is next week! I have been doing a lot of prep work to get ready for the wedding next week! I went into the camera store because I needed to buy some more equipment for the wedding: sd cards, flash, exta batteries, etc. I also sat down to meet with the family and get an idea of what kind of photos they specifically wanted & what the schedule would be like a day of The wedding. 

I also tested out printing the invitations on regular computer paper just so I could see how the font sizes and layouts of the designs looked when printed.

Finally, I think I'm on track to get everything done. I only have four more sections of the magazing left to do. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. The lighting and scenery was perfect on the beach; I know I got some really great shots! I did take close to a thousand pictures, so this week I will be going through the pictures and editing the best ones, which I will be using in the photo album that I will be creating for the couple. I have attached a PDF of some of my favorite pictures so far.

After attending the wedding and seeing how the pictures turned out, I think I am going to go back and edit the color palette on the designs. My current color palette is a a different color palette then I had anticipated. While this is very disappointing and frustrating, since the last class is quickly approaching, I know I will be able to fix the designs on time and they will be better than they were before. So far I have articles for Satoshi Tajiri (the creator of Pokémon) and Susan Boyle (a singer). I am not done this section yet as I still want to have articles for a couple more autistic celebrities. 

I think that I am on track to have everything done by the end of the semester at this point. As long as I keep working on it consistently and get at least one of the remaining section done a week I should be good to go.

I am very happy with the way they turned out. I think adding more colors actually looks better and really makes the whole package come together. Today, I got all of them printed. Now I am about to cut them out, with my exact-o knife (I got them printed on a full sheet of paper to save money!)

Today, I also ordered the wedding album to be printed! I created the layout of all of the photos in InDesign, and uploaded the pdf to Blurb. I have gotten things printed from them before, so I know the quality will be great! I did not get to include as many photos as I would have liked to.. I decided to go with the layflat pages and a hard cover. Once I started adding more pages, the cost was getting to be too much. So I decided to be very selective in which pictures I chose. I wanted each one to capture a moment & memory. I also included some text throughout the book, which are select phrases from the couple's vows to each other. They wrote their own vows, so adding the text was not only helpful from a design perspective, but also adds a more personal touch to the book. The book ended up being 24 pages, which is enough to capture the story-line of the day. Since the book was pretty expensive, I am going to show the couple and if they would like one made, or even more pages added to it, I will definitely charge them extra! I will be keeping this book for my portfolio (I am very proud of it!)

And the second thing that I did was to create the ad that goes on the back page. It is an ad for a fidget cube. 

There's honestly not a lot left for me to do at this point. I only have about two pages left to do in my magazine before all 24 pages are full. If I have time this coming week I might add another 4 pages so I can do the 2 sections that I haven't put into the magazine yet. I spent the past few days finalizing my Project Proposal and perfecting/cleaning up all of my InDesign files. For back-up purposes, I saved a text version and a text-outlined version. 

The photo album came in the mail the other day, and I have to say, it looks amazing! Right now I am just finalizing the mockups I am creating for my final presentation. These will really tie the project together and help visualize the entire wedding package on the screen.

One of the things that I did was to create the table of contents at the start of the document. I saved the table of contents for last because I wanted to have the titles for each section to be created in order to make it in InDesign. I just made it using the automatic table of contents section that InDesign has. I actually had a bit of trouble using the table of contents function in indesign. I have only used it once so I'm not too familiar with it. I had to look up a couple of tutorials to kind of refresh my memory of how it works.

I have also finished the final section that I had to work on still which is the autistic character section. I did a bunch of research and then wrote the article myself. The characters that I have are Billy Cranston from Power Rangers 2017, Wendy from the recent movie Please Stand By, Shaun Murphy from ABC's The Good Doctor, and Brigid Tenanbaum from the video game series Bioshock.

And finally I made the inside back cover be an acknowledgements/dedications page. I wanted some way to thank all of the people who submitted stuff to me for my magazine.

I also worked on stuff such as the final version of my project proposal, and creating my presentation for Wednesday.

So I managed to get done everything that I needed to over the course of the semester.
