Regarding this week’s article, Jeff dramatically paraphrases Taylor’s songs, using words to paint a wonderful nature scene. The arts can not only play an important part in the environment movement, but also play indispensable roles in other aspects of our life, for example: social security, public health, and youth growing up, etc. Artists are the sources of the arts, meanwhile the arts are carrying on our culture. Arts were recording our remotely past and will write down our far away future. So, as for me, the arts are the common soul of us, and the artists are the elves among us. They are so special, pushing us to move ahead and giving us solace.

Peiming Fang

According to the article, the author trying to convince the reader that art can change the perspective toward cruelty to nature. He is using Tylor Swift’s album for that, which fully consists of nature-theme songs. However, art can not only play a vital role in the environmental movement, but it can also motivate people to act in their own lives, influence people to use sustainable products and raise public awareness. Our values, attitudes, and behaviours can also be influenced by art. It has the power to shape public policy and the rules. Because of all that I strongly agree that art is playing an important role and will be a key to change.

ABIN K PAUL JOSEPH

Reading this article I think that the lyrics of the music does motivate people to encourage them to be more active and feel free. The art and artists plays an important role in our lives because most of the music they write to us are really sending us messages through their own language which through their music another way of expressing in art. In my opinion I don't think we can fully do a vehicle change our lives but it is a step by step progress and this would be one of the many ways to persuade us. - Jenny

Reading this weeks article it discusses how the Taylor swift's song has shown that art helps bringing back nature. The author shows art as a part of daily life and that art helps to see nature in a beautiful conservative way and when we see it he says we care more about it. The art and artists compose or write a song influencing or showing the nature and its importance which we listen and after that we become more interested in nature and thus nature can be saved. Nature themed songs are declining day by day but if artists create a art related to nature it can make influence to the people. And yes, I think that they can be a vehicle for change if they put effort in their art.
-Samichhya

I think it's because art is one of the methods that easily transport one's though and whereas it can be variously interpreted by people simultaneously. Furthermore, Artist can communicate their point of view, a solution to a particular problem through art. Therefore, I believe that art has the power to change our thoughts and motivate us.
However, Because of this high influence, we must be careful not to have narrow-minded thinking while colored by one artist

-Daeuk Kim-

In the New York Times article,” Taylor Swift Is Singing Us Back to Nature”, Jeff Opperman(march 12,2021) speaks on how Taylor Swift is keened about nature and how she reflects it in her poetry of music. According to Opperman, when Swift announced her two albums ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’, it was praised not only because of their storytelling and production but for more as It was replete with allusions and portrayals of the natural world because the language of our culture has been slowly losing its connection to the natural world but here, Ms. Swift vigorously fights against that pattern with these sister albums. The lyrics of the albums frequently refer to nature and in her albums, Ms Swift utilizes terms with a natural theme seven times as frequently as other pop songs do, and this matters because the demise of animals or the effects of climate change won't be stopped by Ms. Swift's songs. However, they represent an important move in the right direction toward reversing the decline of nature in pop culture. We must first recognize it if we are to transform the world in a way that protects both nature and ourselves. The power of art can do that.
patel vrunda

I still remember that when we were in our childhood, we didn’t have computers or mobile phones. We liked to play outdoors to embrace nature. Today’s life makes us lose our closeness to nature. But artists can change this. They use natural words in their songs, they present beautiful pictures of nature in their works of art. Through visual effects and other art forms, we can awaken our love for nature, inspire our desire to protect nature and change our environment.
I think the importance of art and artists to our lives and to the society at large cannot be overstated. Art has the ability to uplift, stimulate cognition, arouse emotions, and challenge our worldviews. It reflects the human experience and can cut over linguistic, cultural, and social boundaries. Artists have the power to draw attention to critical topics, such as environmental concerns through their creativity and expression. This article encourage people to re-examine their relationship with nature by upending conventional norms, igniting imagination and fostering critical thinking as the artist displayed a great connection and appreciation for nature. Additionally, people may be inspired by art to advocate more significant systemic changes and to make positive changes in their own lives by expressing complicated ideas, creativity, scientific knowledge into a captivating and interesting way. Art has the power to transcend divides, appeal to our emotions and imagination, and bring people together in a common concern for the environment.

The world is fast getting smaller and unavailable in the sense that we no longer care about those things that identified us as a people with one heart, one love. Just as we have drifted from nature, we are gradually drifting away from ourselves through the advancement of modern technology. I bemoan the fact that in most cases, we are close but very far away from ourselves as a result of modern day technology. ---Patience

According to me, art plays important role in everyone's life. The expression or use of human creativity, usually in the form of anything visual, like a painting or a sculpture, that results in art that is valued primarily for its aesthetic appeal or emotional impact. We can express our feelings and thoughts through the art. Creativity can also be shown through the art and we can protect the environment with the help of art.

Art can be a part of our life and it is significant in environmental movement. Art can create a sensory experience for individuals. When our daily life is enriched with art pieces related to nature, we will appreciate more about the beauty and power of the ecosystem. Famous artists, such as Taylor Swift, and their songs take a more crucial role in influencing audiences. For example, Swift’s lyrics about trees can recall our memories of the beauty of forests and help us to reconstruct the relationships between humans and nature, as well as arouse our awareness to conserve the forests, the gift of nature. Swift songs are the vehicles of change as they catalyze our love of the natural world into environmentally friendly actions. If everyone takes a small step in reducing human destructive activities in the wild, a significant change to the earth can be created. Thus, listening to music is not only a source of entertainment, but also provokes nature-loving ideas.

-Lai Chu Cheung

Regardless of one's socioeconomic background, ethnicity, nationality or religion, art from one's culture has the ability to influence you in some way, shape or form. This is evident both today and throughout history - whether it was the Renaissance in the 14th century or Rock 'n' Roll in the 1950s.

With that being said, I believe art and artists have the ability to shape the public's perception of the environment and climate change.
Is the social sciences really inferior to the natural sciences?

This article presents in vivid terms the important role of art for environmental movements, which reminds me of the controversy about the contribution of social and natural sciences to social progress. It is true that the progress of natural science since the Renaissance has given birth to a series of dazzling jewel, such as the three technological revolution, the internet revolution... but is the social sciences really inferior to the natural sciences? I believe that while the natural sciences are important, a society lacking the involvement of the social sciences would be a great disaster. For example, while the rise of AI has everyone cheering, it has also raised fears of destroying humanity. In fact this is not the first time that advances in natural science have raised concerns for human society; similar concerns have been raised as far back as the birth of the atomic bomb. When we compare society to a ship, the natural sciences are the driving force behind the ship's progress, but the social sciences, including the arts, will be the guiding beacon for the progress of society as a whole.

-----Jianzhong Ding

It may be an activity that we love, speeches and music we listen to and even works of art. On this note, any form of experiences we enjoy would be able to persuade us to look closely in our environment, perhaps relive past experiences and value the things we forgot that should be a priority. I believe that artists, even unknown ones could express themselves and give us the opportunity to start a conversation and hopefully we would be encouraged to do something about it. -Mariel de Guzman

The Transformative Power of Art, Artists

Art and artists play a significant role in our lives and in society as a whole. They convey the power to evoke emotions, challenge perspectives, and motivate critical thinking. Art can serve as a powerful catalyst for change with the ability to stimulate awareness about environmental concerns, cause meaningful dialogue, and encourage a call for action. By engaging with environment and nature filled themes and lyrics, artists have a strong influence on humans, sparking conversations, inspiring new ways of thinking, and creating empathy and connection with nature.

One of this type of art that was emphasized in this week’s journal is music. Music is an expressive and creative medium that involves combining sounds, rhythm, melody, and harmony to cause emotions, tell stories, and communicate ideas. Art also serves as a medium of education and advocacy. Through artistic mediums such as music, theater, visual arts, literature, etc, artists can convey intricate messages about environmental sustainability and conservation. They can challenge societal norms, question unsustainable practices, and propose alternative visions for a more environmentally conscious society. By appealing to our senses and emotions, art can inspire behavioral change, promote environmental stewardship, and drive collective action.

However, it is important to acknowledge that art alone may not bring about direct, tangible change. It often acts as a catalyst, sparking conversations and influencing public opinion, which can then lead to broader societal transformation.

Oluwadamisi Adeboje
