On June 23, 1683 William Penn promised to live with the natives in “openness and love” and as “one flesh and one blood”. Following that Tamanend replied, “We will live in love with William Penn and his children, while the sun, moon, and stars endure.” After that generation the nation cheated the treaty, but this is still expressed today through paintings and other forms of art. It is significant because it is Pennsylvania's most long-standing historical tradition.
