The Pueblo people believed in many different things some similar to the basic European beliefs and others that were changed to fit the needs and beliefs of the Pueblo people. One thing that they believed in was called the Hopi. The Hopi defines the relationship between man, nature, plants, and animals. They had an underground religious room called the Kiva where they practiced rituals. The Pueblo people called the practice of religion and spirits Kachina. During religious ceremonies they had dancers and made sacrifices so they can please the gods and receive blessings. One thing they found sacred was a prayer stick. They used the prayer stick as an offering to the spirit. This stick contained feathers and plums. While the feathers represented the people praying to pray to the gods, the stick represents the gods. All these traditions lasted until the European countries started exploring and Spanish reached the Pueblo lands. The Spanish invaders tried to convert/teach the people Christianity which is completely different from their polytheistic faith. Instead of completely concerting into Christianity they transformed the Spanish beliefs to be compatible with their own traditions and beliefs.

The priesthood had the power in an Pueblo tribe. they were in charge of war against other tribes as well as peace, hunting etc. But the arrival of the Spaniards shifted its government to some kind of elective system which was controlled strictly by a lieutenant-governor, who would be also know as the Chief, and a body of alderman. Unlike the priesthood class everyone else did not really have much power. Leadership would be gained by either bloodline or showing that the are brave, smart and would make a good leader. The laws were determined by the All Indian Pueblo Council who would make the decisions on behalf of all of them. There weren't really any social classes but the women were considered to be of higher status than the men within the tribe to the point that they would own houses and gardens.
