This added a make-believe element; fantasy.

2) The old man and his enormous wings symbolize the people’s criticisms because people make assumptions and as those assumptions catch on the people become fickle.

3) Simply put, this is a tale for children given the fanatasy-appeal, and serves an adult audience due to this story’s allegory.

4) Yes it’s more effective, for the reality in itself serves to give a basis of understanding and the fictional aspect builds upon that because it sheds a light on the situation, thus making it more understandable. 

5) For the fact the fact that it’s a work of fantasy it is plot-based (focused on the descriptions and characterization), rather than conversation-based writing. And, the relation of the point of view is limited to the third person and that relates to the story, not directed to the narrator.

Q2: The symbolic significance of the of the old angel is describing how the the characters saw the man because angels are thought of to be strong and young and “old man” has a connotation of the angel having creaky bones and slow. There is religious significance of the angel because angels are a christian belief, and instead of protecting the angel as strong protectors, the author strips down the angel and made it seems as a broken old man. He stress the details of being dirty and half plucked to display how the angel is and what he looks like. The oxymoron of “flesh-and-blood angel” is central to the menaing because what is supposed to be supernatural is just like the everyday man.
