The MAPS assessment creates a norm reference to show how other students have scored across the district and across the United States. The assessment not only determines if a student is performing and grade level, but it also determines if a teacher, school, or district are performing at a high level to make sure that students are growing and showing proficiency in both ELA and in Math. Students are required to complete the assessment without any assistance from peers, teachers, or additional resources. </p>]]></description>

This allows the teacher to make instructional moves fro the following week. If only a small group of students show that they did not understand the skill, the the teacher can pull a small group. If students are showing that they are mastering the skill, the teacher can move on to enrich the student by moving faster or providing extension activities for the student. </p>]]></description>

Teachers are able to evaluate to see which section a student falls out of. This will allow the teacher to place the student in groups that will focus on the deficit skill. Once the skill has been taught, the teacher will test the student again and check for mastery. </p>]]></description>

Students are expected to show different skills to answer multi-step problems where 1 answer is then used to answer another question. This assessment can be given to all students in the same grade level to determine where the student is at in their learning. A common assessment like this allows teachers the data the make informed decisions on student understanding immediately after the students are finished with the assessment. This type of of assessment also varies in difficulty to see how students are able to answer critical thinking questions. </p>]]></description>

Students can participate in peer evaluations, where peers evaluate the student's writing or performance and give constructive feedback to help the student edit or revise their assignment. This allows the student being critique to use it as a learning tool to improve their assignment. This also allows the peer to learn how someone else approached the assignment and gain a different perspective. </p>]]></description>
