In our discussion, we agreed that being bilingual brings significant cognitive advantages, since it keeps the brain active, adaptable, and better at concentrating. From my own experience, speaking more than one language has allowed me to connect with people from diverse cultures and enjoy books or movies in their original form. For children, bilingualism supports mental growth by improving memory and problem-solving abilities from an early stage. It may also delay cognitive illnesses like Alzheimer’s, because regularly switching between languages exercises the brain. For these reasons, I am convinced that learning a second language is essential, not only as a tool for communication, but also as a way to maintain a healthier and more open mind.

After debating this topic, I’ve come to the conclusion that being bilingual does have benefits for the brain. Speaking more than one language keeps your brain constantly changing or more flexible, helping you think faster, concentrate better, and switch between tasks more easily. In my case, knowing another language has helped me a lot, for example, at work when assisting foreign customers and in understanding written information in English.

Also, I believe that children who learn two languages from a young age develop their brains better, as they grow up seeing the world from two perspectives and understanding it in both ways. And it's not just in children, but also in adults, where it has been proven that it can delay Alzheimer’s or dementia, since it helps keep the brain active.

That’s why I believe learning a second language is super important, not just for job opportunities, learning, or communication while traveling, but also because it’s good for developing and maintaining your mind.

Sure, being bilingual definitely has cognitive benefits. We think that bilingual people use their brains in a more active way because they constantly switch between two languages, and this trains the brain to be better at focusing, ignoring distractions, and solving problems. It also improves memory and helps people multitask more effectively. So, speaking two languages is like giving your brain daily exercise.

Of course. For example, when traveling, knowing another language makes it much easier to communicate and understand others. It also helps when watching movies or reading books in their original language. Sometimes, translations don’t capture the real meaning. In school or at work, being bilingual is a big advantage too, because it opens more opportunities and lets you connect with people from different countries.

We learned that bilingual kids develop stronger brain connections, especially in areas related to attention and decision making. Since they constantly manage two languages, their brains learn to focus better and switch tasks more easily. This mental flexibility helps them in other areas of learning as well. This kids also become more aware of how language works, which makes it easier for them to learn new languages later.

Being bilingual can actually delay diseases like Alzheimer. That's because the constant brain activity involved in switching languages helps build a cognitive reserve. This means that even when the brain starts to age, it can keep functioning well for longer. In some studies, bilingual people showed symptoms of Alzheimer’s about four or five years later than monolingual people, so bilingualism helps keep the brain stronger and healthier over time.

Yes, we think that learning a second language is very important. It not only improves brain function but also helps you understand the world and persons better. You can communicate with more people, appreciate other cultures, and even see things from new perspectives. In today’s global world, speaking more than one language is a huge advantage both personally and professionally.

Because I doubt it desenvolups in the same way, right?

Yes, I do. Being bilingual helps the brain work better. It improves memory, attention, and the ability to do more than one thing at the same time.

Yes. Knowing English helps me at work because many dental products and studies are written in English. It also helps me talk to foreign patients.

It helps children think faster and remember more things. They can change from one language to another easily, and this makes their brain stronger.

Using two languages keeps the brain active and healthy. This can help delay problems like Alzheimer’s when people get older.

Yes, it is important. Learning another language helps you find better jobs, travel, and communicate with more people around the world.

Reflection:

During the discussion with my classmates, I learned many interesting ideas about bilingualism and the importance of learning English. Some of my peers said that speaking more than one language helps them communicate with people from different countries and cultures. Others mentioned that it improves memory, attention, and creativity. I found it very interesting that bilingual people can switch between tasks more easily because their brains are more flexible.

I also realized that English is not only useful for travel or study, but also for professional life. In my field, oral hygiene, English is very important to understand manuals, research, and communicate with international patients. Listening to my classmates made me think that learning a second language is a lifelong skill that can bring many personal and professional benefits.

In today's discussion, being bilingual has more advantages than it seems, not only does it help us communicate, but also to take care of our own health, which is why it is very important to know more than one language, we do not need to learn it when we are little, which is the most recommended, we can also learn as adults, which will cost us a little more.
