I think it's important because it's  very symbolic - when the government destroys information that interferes with them, which also shows totalitarianism and fascism . And in principle, the mass destruction of books preceded the mass destruction of people.At that time, books were one of the main sources of information, and in this way the Nazis tried to leave their citizens without an alternative government point of view.
