I am a teacher, a mother and an explorer of life. Reading is a passion of mine, writing not so much. Our kids and students they follow what they see not what we say. In an effort to encourage writing and creativity in my classroom and family I am beginning a journey. For the month of November I will be sharing my gratitude practice here for the world to see. May it bring bring joy, inspiration and maybe even laughter to everyone that reads it.

I am grateful for the written word. The joy of living a country where expressing your thoughts or telling a story is celebrated and allowed. Lately, writing has been something that feels like a chore for my students and I figure if I don't do it daily why should they? To that end I have decided to take the wonderful practice of gratitude in the month of November and turn it into a writing project for myself. Stay tuned for updates OR block me if not interested.

This one is pretty teacher specific, sorry "regular sane folks". I had a pencil sharpener that worked ALL DAY LONG. It sharpened pencils and not one kid asked to sharpen their pencils because we had plenty of sharp pencils. Oh man I am grateful for that glorious working pencil sharpener! Nw to get them to go to the bathroom at recess...

Change. Sometimes familiarity and the comfort of doing the same thing is like an old sweatshirt whose dinginess demands that it be relegated to the trash bin. Other times, novelty can bring a breath of fresh air. Today I was grateful for small changes that livened up my day. The bagel and cream cheese breakfast instead of my normal granola bar and banana. The art lesson I had my students do in the afternoon when they normally have "choice time" on their computers. Most importantly, the afternoon walk with my family when Friday afternoon usually demands vegging in front of the tv. I'm glad I embraced some change today.

My poor family, they often have to hear me say, "look at the sky, it is so pretty right now!" There is just something about it's vastness layered with clouds. Look for beauty where you can find it and I often see it up there. This picture from yesterday isn't particularly stunning but, it is part of a collection. If you open my iPhotos you will see a lot of pictures of my kids and many of the sky as well. It just makes me happy, grateful too.

Thank you for humor. When a situation is trying a little laughter goes a long way. Daylight Savings Time is tough with kids. It is already hard enough to get kids to go to sleep or wake up on a schedule but, add in the fall back and hahahahahahaha....yeah right. I remember the days when Fall Back meant an extra hour of sleep. Now it just means an extra hour with crabby kids. Thankfully, humor can go a long way to alleviate the pain that is fall back.

Music. It makes any gratitude list I would ever create, every. single. time. Today it was a companion as I took care of the odds and ends of life and filled my family time with a common bond. Thank you to the creators of music. You express our collective joy and sorrow so beautifully when just plain words don't seem to be enough.
