i used to take clean toilets, health for granted

Now i value the effort that is taken to make sure toilet is clean. I also make sure that i do no smoke

Overall it has been a very meaningful experience, although it was difficult to clean all the nooks and crevices of the house, there was a sense of accomplishment when we completed it as a group. Plus we got to speak with the uncle and get to interact with him. 🙏

This was really an eye opening experience. Seeing people living in places with conditions like this in real life really taught me to be grateful for what i have in life. I have also learnt more about the residents staying here and how a day in their life looks like. Overall, im really grateful for this experience.

i did not know how bad the living conditions that these residents have to deal with. i learnt to appreciate what i have and also empathise for them

I used to think that cleaning homes of the elderly would be easy but it was difficult and through this experience I was able to do something meaningful and make the elderly happy

My definition of volunteerism has changed drastically after today’s experience. Previously I used to think that volunteering only benefits the beneficiaries and that volunteering leaves me bereft of time for other things. Looking back, I realise how selfish and how apathetic I was towards others. After today, I realised that even though you do “lose” your free time when you volunteer, every bit of that time is worth it as you are not only brightening the lives of others but you are also benefited. When you receive words of gratitude from the beneficiaries it is enough to brighten up your whole week. All in all my new definition of volunteering is having the ability to serve others but at the same time be served with gratitude. At the end of the day it is best to “Love All, Serve All”

it was fulfilling being able to help the elderly clean parts of the house they could not do by themselves. interacting and listening to their interesting stories was also very fun.
