Appearance

Red hair, blue eyes. As she gets older she develops a prominent streak of grey-white hair from her forehead. She thinks it makes her look more "crone-like" which she loves.

She stands 5'4" (162 cm) tall, and usually weighs about 125 to 130 lbs. Making her height and weight pretty average.

Her nose is a bit larger than average, which doesn't like. But considering that it is not covered in warts like fairy tale witches she feels she got off luckier than most!

Tea

Best Friend

Larina's best friend is Heather. They met while Larina was away at university and Heather was playing guitar in a local bar.

Daughter of Lars

Larina was named after her father Lars. She was born a week early so her parents had not settled on a name yet. When she arrived she had a head full of bright red hair like her father.

Larina hates her middle name, "Stephanie." She says that "Stephanie" is a "blonde girl who never reads and can't tell the difference between an Assam and a Darjeeling."

Aurora

In worlds where witches are real, so are vampires. Larina hates vampires. She will even ignore her own fear of fire to deal with an evil vampire.

In modern versions, Larina grew up listening to the same music her father enjoyed, a lot of prog-rock and psychedelic rock. In particular a lot of "Yes" who, to this day, she still doesn't understand why he liked them. As she got older her tastes went more towards the alternative and goth scenes.

Larina grew out of my reading of Jung, particularly his notions of a "Dark Anima" side to your personality. I remember sitting on my bed in my old childhood bedroom and thinking about what my own dark anima would be like. In Jung's philosophy, males are said to have a female anima, and women are said to have a male animus. So. What would my anima be like? Something like this I think.

Larina loves all sorts of languages and often acts as a translator. She can talk to ghosts, but not if they don't share a language in common. Plus she hated the idea that there are books out there she couldn't read.

Horror Film connections

There is also a better-than-average chance that a lot of her look was influenced by a lot of the horror movies I was watching at the time. One was easily The Devil's Nightmare (1971), which I scored on VHS tape, and The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave (1971), both featuring the lovely Erika Blanc, who is almost a "live-action Larina" in my mind. However, there is no doubt that one of the biggest influences on how she looked was Cassandra Peterson, aka Elviria. Though not her Elvira character, how she looks in real life.

I always felt Larina would have a larger-than-average nose. Mostly because she is a witch after all. But also because I had a huge crush on Animotion singer Astrid Plane. In later years she even looked more like Larina.
