Shafie (Week 1)

In the Name of the Most Merciful, Most Forgiving

This week I'd like to briefly mention A trait of our Lord SWT

and by means of it to always turn back to him,

Allah swt instructs us to seek his forgiveness

Return to your Lord for forgiveness.

Indeed He is all-forgiver.

He will send for you abundant rains from the sky,

and aid you with wealth and offspring,

and provide you with gardens

and provide you with streams.

[Surah Nuh]

Who is it that we are truly seeking forgiveness from ?

Who is it that we wish to turn towards ?

Allah swt says:

وَ ٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتُوبَ عَلَيْكُمْ

And Allah wants to forgive you
[4:27]

يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُخَفِّفَ عَنكُمْ ۚ

Allah wants to lighten(your burden) for you,

[4:28]

SubhanllaH.

And so the contingent issue still lies :

As Allah swt puts forth to us .

اَلَا تُحِبُّوۡنَ اَنۡ يَّغۡفِرَ اللّٰهُ لَـكُمۡ

Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?

[24:22 ]

Our Prophet pbuh said ,

من لزم الاستغفار

، جعل الله له من كل ضيق مخرجاً ومن كل هم فرجاً

، ورزقه من حيث لا يحتسب‏

"If anyone constantly seeks pardon (from Allah), Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance for him from where he expects not."

And so the question still lies .

اَلَا تُحِبُّوۡنَ اَنۡ يَّغۡفِرَ اللّٰهُ لَـكُمۡ

Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?

[24:22 ]

May Allah swt make us love to seek his forgvieness

and to return to him in a state He swt is pleased

Asalamulaikum

Reminder for this week.

In the name of Allah the most merciful and forgiving.

With the current events that have been circulating in the news recently.

The death of the young child Rayan, and the tragic passing of two young men.

I thought it would be good to reflect on the temporary nature of this world.

To remember the temporary nature of this world.

Death will come whether we are young or old and there is no guarantee we will live to see tomorrow.

May Allah forgive us for our shortcoming, may he fill our graves with Noor. Grant us Jannatul Firdous and be pleased with us.

This weeks reminder will be about remembering Allah

‎أَلاَ بِذِكْرِ اللّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ

"Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." 13:28

What is the remembrance of Allah ?
Though Prayer is definitely a vital way of remembering Allah, the Quran says it goes beyond that. It includes silent contemplation, and active service of Allah and His Creatures. This not only benefits your Akhirah , but we know from the above Ayah that it also gives you a sense of serenity and ease in your life.

I ask that in our remembrance of him, Allah grants us peace and understanding in our hearts

Uzayr (Week 4)

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته،

This weeks reminder will be following on from our alumni careers event.

After speaking to those who have already begun their careers, they emphasised the importance of priorities. Brother Isma'il said "we are defined by our no's".

In Surah Munafiqun ayah 9 states:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُلْهِكُمْ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَـٰدُكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ

"O believers! Do not let your wealth or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. For whoever does so, it is they who are the ˹true˺ losers."

This ayah highlights the important thing in this life is the akhirah and the remembrance of Allah swt. Money is a secondary goal and whilst we are at university, we must bear this in mind.
InshaAllah, brothers and sisters, we must purify our intentions and constantly be mindful of Our Creator. Money is but a temporary attraction of the dunya and will ultimately do us no good in our grave.

May Allah purify our intentions & make clear to us our priorities. I ask that He grant us ihsan in whatever field we choose to pursue.

Ambia (Week 5)

‎‏ السلام عليكم

For this week’s reminder, we will focus on the importance of prioritising our Deen in the face of struggle. When going to university, it is common for many muslims to find difficulty in remembering their faith and their akhirah. With the events of DIW this week, I hope we can appreciate how being steadfast on the Haqq can inspire others, muslim and non muslim, even if initially only to quench a curiosity.

In Surah Kafirun, verse 6, it says;

‎لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِىَ دِينِ
“For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.”

Whilst many use this quote to express religious harmony, it is necessary to recognise this also incites a firmness for our faith and practices, no matter how different we may seem to others, especially relevant to the modern social climate - to embrace all aspects of our identity as muslims and cast aside such which fails to align. We may experience a struggle in maintaining this but a key hadith which encourages us that I would like to end on, narrated on the Authority of Abu Huraira, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Islam initiated as something strange, and it would revert to its (old position) of being strange. So good tidings for the stranger.”
(Sahih Muslim 145)

May Allah Azzawajal grant us all hidayah and strengthen our imaans, so that He will be pleased with us when we ultimately return to him.

Ziyana (Week 6)

Asalam Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Verses from Surah Ali’Imran,

And march forth in the way (which leads to) forgiveness from your Lord, and for Paradise as wide as are the heavens and the earth, prepared for the pious.

Who spend [in the cause of Allah] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good;

And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and (they) do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know.

(3:133-136)

Asalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving.

As the month of Ramadan is a few days away Bi’ithnillah, this week’s reminder will be on the topic of Ramadhan and fasting.

In Surah Baqarah

“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous –“

[2:183]

‘‘…But to fast is best for you, if you only knew’’ [2:184]

Fasting during the month of Ramadhan is one of the five pillars of Islam. Not only is it the month in which the Quran was revealed but fasting during this blessed month allows us to learn piety and increase in our Taqwa, God consciousness. During this month try and begin new beneficial habits that you aim to continue after Ramadhan, such as reading Surah Mulk before going to sleep or praying sunnah. And discard of old habits that will not be beneficial to you in the hereafter. Even though exam season is coming up, make an effort to engage in as much ibadaat, duaa, recitation of the Quran, Istighfaar, sadaqah and seeking of new knowledge In Sha Allah as the next Ramdhan is not promised for any of us.

Also make a list of Ramadhan goals such as praying taraweeh or memorising new surahs/duas and an intention of what is you want to achieve at the end of this blessed month In Sha Allah. The Prophet SallahAllahu Alayhi Wassalam said, “Actions are only according to intentions, and a person receives only what he has intended” (Bukhārī, Muslim)

May Allah allow us all to observe this coming Ramadhan and the ability to do that which is pleasing to Him within this blessed month. May Allah make us amongst those who fast and pray in this month out of faith and seeking His reward and forgiveness. May The Almighty, The All Merciful accept our deeds and make this a month of strengthening our Iman and guiding us to the straight path.

Wasira (Week 8)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ،
الحمدلله، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله و على آله وصحبه اجمعين
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته ،

The month of the Quran is upon us, so I thought it would be befitting to have a reminder on the Quran بإذن الله تعالى

During this month it is authentically narrated the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم would recite the entire Quran in a single night (Sunan An-Nasai 1641) which he was not narrated to have down outside this month.

And the great scholars of this Ummah would follow this: it is reported Imam Ash-Shafi’i رحمه الله would finish the recitation of the Quran 60 times whilst in prayer in the entirety of this month, likewise Imam al-Bukhari رحمه الله would finish it once a day.
All it would take for us is to read 4 pages after each Salah to finish the Quran once this month. And if you have not started then it’s never too late InshaAllah!

Let us also increase in the contemplation over the Quran too: As Allah عزوجل says

أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَآ
“Do they not then think deeply over the Qur’ân, or are their hearts locked up (from understanding it)?”
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“To recite a single Ayāh of the Qurʿān with contemplation and reflection is better than reciting the Qurʿān (for) completion without any contemplation or reflection.”
It is reported the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم stood in prayer the entirety of a night reciting only one verse (Sunan an-nasai 1010)

Lastly, I wanted to end with a beautiful statement:
“Everything the Quran is associated with becomes great. Jibril descended with the Quran and was given the title ‘Ar-Ruh Al-Ameen’. It was revealed to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and he because the leader of the Prophets and the best of all of mankind. The Quran was revealed to the Ummah of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and they became the best of all the nations. And it was revealed in Ramadan, which became the best of months. And it was revealed on the Night of Decree and it became the best of nights.
Thus, I swear by Allah, He who has no partners , when the Quran descends upon a person’s heart, he becomes the best of people. This is because of the saying of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم ‘the best amongst you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it.’
So, when the Quran enters into your life and into your day, they become the best of days and the sweetest of lives.”

I ask Allah سبحانه وتعالى to make us and our loved ones from the people of the Quran, those who cherish it and never abandon it. I ask, Allah, to allow the Quran to be an intercession for us and never against us. Ameen.

Kanzah (Week 9)

This was just a reminder I had seen pop up in a gc but I really enjoyed it. Especially focusing on the last paragraph, I think sometimes we get quite caught up in wanting things to go a certain way and wanting to plan out things in our lives and sometimes when they don’t go they way we want we can get quite upset but I think there is a lot of comfort in knowing that everything happens for a reason, and that it is the will of Allah. He after all has the best plan for us.

‘Their Messengers said: "What! Can there be a doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you (to Monotheism and to be obedient to Allah) that He may forgive you of your sins and give you respite for a term appointed." They said: "You are no more than human beings like us! You wish to turn us away from what our fathers used to worship. Then bring us a clear authority (i.e. a clear proof of what you say)."

Their Messengers said to them: "We are no more than human beings like you, but Allah bestows His Grace to whom He wills of His slaves. It is not ours to bring you an authority (proof) except by the Permission of Allah. And in Allah (Alone) let the believers put their trust.

"And why should we not put our trust in Allah while He indeed has guided us our ways? And we shall certainly bear with patience all the hurt you may cause us, and in Allah (Alone) let those who trust, put their trust."’

~ Surah Ibrahim (14:10-12)
