In the winter, when surface temperatures are low enough for water to freeze, floating ice forms a layer of insulation on top of lakes and seas. <title>If is different because in the warmer months, (such as June, July, and August) the water on the top of the lake is warm. During the winter, the pond switches. The bottom of the lake is the warmer part because there is ice sitting on the top of the water. All of the living things are at the bottom of the lake trying to stay warm. </title>
