August 21: What About My Name...

I was given my name because my mother decides to combine the names of my grandparents (her parents). From my grandmother "María " and from my grandfather "José". And also my parents are lawyers so they decide to use the name of one of the Mexican historic heroes that fought for the country: José María Morelos.

I like my name because it is quite different from others but at the same time, it is common, taking into consideration that José and María (taking the names separated and according to INEGI, José is the male name more used, and María is the female name more used) are the most common names in Mexico, but according to "Registro Nacional de Población" this name isn't in the ranking of 100 most common names in Mexico. But sometimes I dislike my name because half of it is a name that is usually used for females. and I only can use "José" alone not "María" and I would like to use my second name alone sometimes.

My name is a good fit for my personality because its simplicity makes it more familiar for others. According to a psychological study made by Harvard University, your name is like your presentation card (the first impression when you know someone) and common names are more comfortable for others. Also, my name has a relation with tranquility and introvert, and my personality is all that. It isn’t a good match with me because since is a "friendly name" these people use to be very friendly, and I am more close to people I don't know.

I don't really have experienced an assumption about my name, or maybe it happens but I don't know about it. But the most similar situation was when sometimes the teacher changed the order of my name to "María José".

According to the same study of Harvard University, the complicated names make insecure and aggressive people, because they need to be clarifying their names, sometimes with the same problem of half of my name (feminine), so I can be quiet aggressive.

References:

BargueÑO, M. How could making a different choice in your hairstyle, fashion, or another aspect of your routine affect how people look at you?

These would have a great impact not only in me but also in others because humans by instinct make choices about things that are familiar and make us comfortable that's why the routines exist, and if one day an I decide to change all, I will be different to others maybe others will treat me different.

Describe a time in your life when your concerns about how you would be perceived by others affected a decision you made.

When I was 13-14 years old, I was totally influenced by others' opinions in that way that I really don't express to me the way I really was and to my friends don't really talk about certain things.

Who are the people with whom you can be and show your truest self?
