·       Promote social justice, equality and equity - working for a fair distribution of material and social goods in society according to people’s needs, acknowledging harmful differences that can be remedied, respecting diversity of cultures, religions and lifestyles and challenging oppressive power structures and discriminatory treatment.  

 

·       Work towards environmental justice and sustainable communities - respecting the well-being and habitats of non-human creatures and promoting a flourishing eco-system as a good in itself, as well as out of consideration for humans whose livelihoods depend on a well-functioning eco-system.

 

·       Respect and encourage solidarity between people and groups - encouraging people experiencing similar problems to stand together and support each other, as well as engaging other people to take a stand alongside them.

 

·       Promote and support collective action - bringing diverse people and groups together to identify their common concerns and interests and take action for positive social change. 

 

·       Promote individual, group and community empowerment - supporting people to mobilise, create or draw out their own power to make decisions and take actions on issues that concern them.

 

·       Promote and support democratic participation - ensuring that people who are often invisible or unheard take part in community activities, decision-making and actions about matters affecting their lives.

 

·       Facilitating people in processes of learning together - valuing mutual learning and growth amongst people engaging in community development and fostering critical knowledge, confidence and skills of individuals and groups.
