A 12th century physician/ astronomer named Moses Maimonides believed that having a bath in warm sweetened water with honey would cure a headache the best.

Roman physicians often prescribed an elixir (medical or magical potion) that contained human flesh, blood or bone. They believed that the blood of a dead gladiator had the power to cure epilepsy as well as headaches, muscle cramps or stomach ulcers.
Early scientists believed that everything contained four elements, known as the four humors. When they were not equally balanced they believed this caused them to fall ill.

A set of treatises published in 1762 by the ‘Dutch Society of Sciences’ said that electricity cured a bad headache by using a electric eel. They would have the person with a headache put one of their hands on their head and the other on the electric eel, sending a shock to the brain. This method apparently always worked.

We can learn about society through this information by noticing that many people centuries ago thought that God and religion was the main cause for any illness or injuries.
