Roman physicians often prescribed an elixir (medical or magical potion) that contained human flesh, blood or bone. They believed that the blood of a dead gladiator had the power to cure epilepsy as well as headaches, muscle cramps or stomach ulcers. 
Early scientists believed that everything contained four elements, known as the four humors. When they were not equally balanced they believed this caused them to fall ill.

-Egyptians also thought that animal dung such as donkey and gazelle dung had healing properties and could ward off bad spirits. 
-Caveman around the 8th century BC drilled holes in their heads to relieve pressure on the brain, however this wasn’t the best option due to the damage they did to their bodies.
