During these periods, civilizations rose, changed and collapsed, they developed different characteristics, art and politics that were unique to each. For example, Ancient Greece had the poleis, which were different cities in Greece and the coast of Asia Minor. Some of these cities were: Sparta, Athens, Corinth, Thebes, Miletus, Ephesus, Argos, among several others.

All these political, philosophical, artistic and scientific advances of the ancient civilization, formed a legacy which would influence the next western civilizations.
From there is the importance of knowing more about this culture. In this way we will be able to understand our current environment much better. They are our heritage and as such, we have to respect, appreciate and protect it.
