Tangled: Mother Gothel

In the movie Tangled Mother Gothel wants to be young and beautiful- she does not want to age... I wonder why she does not want to age? Why is the character that does not want to age a woman? This is where ageism meets sexism. Women tend to try to make themselves look younger because older woman loose their sexy. On the other hand, older men are still considered desirable when they age.

Elder

This image is the first image that popped up when I typed in "elder." First off, aging does not have to be sad! To me, this woman does not look "elderly;" she looks only a little older than my mom. Also I question why this image is of a woman crying rather than a man crying? Are older women stereotypically lonely?

This older woman is "flossing" which is a dance move that originated in around 2010. I think this gif is positive because it's showing an older woman dancing and moving around rather than in a wheelchair; and this dance move is relatively new so it shows she is "hip!" Grandmas can be cool too!

Retirement Stereotype

This image puts a negative viewpoint on retirement. The sign is of two people with a hunched back holding hands with a cane to support their walking and stability. This stereotypes all people who are retired as physically challenged. In reality the average age to retire is 62 years old; most people age 62 are considered very healthy!
