- Mexican Americans have been around for ages. They have struggled like every other ethnic groups in the United States. They struggled with lack of recourses, leadership, and organizations to even fight for Civil Rights. But as time went on they gained that confidence and protested naturalization, and discrimination.
-To fight for the awareness of civil rights many people did boycotts, strikes, and more. An example of who protested for equality rights is Cesar Chavez. Examples of organizations that helped fight for discrimination was the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), and El congresso de Pueblo’s que Hablan Español.
- Mexican Americans are now struggling to even enter the United States. As our new president is worried about “to many immigrants entering the United States” he is prohibiting an increment of immigrants to enter our country. This doing effects chicanos to continue their education and holds them back from improving their lives and possibly the society as well.
- As Chicanos continue to increase in the U.S. I believe their rights will be more settle among citizens. Now the government allowing immigrants to enter our country is a struggle that I think chicanos will always have to deal with.
- Cynthia Castañeda

Although things are still not all good, we are moving towards better conditions for them and everyone now has an equal chance for everything.
- I can't see conditions getting worse for people of color.
Civil Rights for the LGBT Community

The LGBT community has always struggled, whether they were out about the way they were or not, there was always a form of discrimination against them or others like them. Romer v. Evans was a legal case in which the U.S. Supreme Court on May 20, 1996, voided an amendment to the Colorado state constitution that prohibited laws protecting the rights of homosexuals. That resulted in discrimination against the community in jobs and housing. The court ruled that the law against the rights of homosexuals was not in the favor of the state of Colorado and had removed the law from the state's constitution. Hurley v. Irish-American Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Group of Boston, Inc. was a legal case in which, on June 19, 1995, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously upheld the right of parade organizers to exclude groups consisted of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. Facing struggles like discrimination against what you can't change about yourself led to unreasonable court cases against the community and emotional struggles. According to Human Health and Resources, LGBT youth are almost five times more likely to have attempted suicide compared to heterosexual youth. Not only do we face those problems but the problem of being accepted by those we love the most. Most LGBT teens are disowned by their parents or sent to camps or therapy to get rid of what they can't change. The LGBT community tried to overcome these struggles by protesting for their rights and trying to get others to see that we are equals. Even though the community is more well known now a days and is accepted by most it still faces issues and discrimination. The biggest current issue the group faces is acceptance from those around us. Even today they face issues of violence, conversion therapy, hate, and acceptance. The community is still fighting for their rights and acceptance. I think the civil rights of the community in the future would look like what every heterosexuals civil rights looks like now. I hope in the future that the community is accepted and that we are able to buy houses, work, and adopt children without being discriminated for it.

-Sabrina Atherton

Protested for many months, laying the groundwork for a movement enduring for many decades. Emboldened by the African-American they doubled down in protesting. When they were out protesting for work in the Confucius plaza some protesters were arrested by police officers. The construction company finally hired 27 workers. Noticed they were living in comparably substandard housing compared to Whites began to protest. They had a court case in which they won affordable housing for better houses than they had.
- Jarren Franco

Civil Rights: Native Americans

- Native Americans have been around for an immense amount of time resulting in having to face a great amount of struggles. Dating back to when European Settlers stumbled upon America thinking it was unclaimed territory when in fact it was not. Once these settlers stepped foot on this land, it drastically changed Native Americans live's forever. From being forced off of their land causing many to die on the Trail of Tears, to culturally assimilating them to follow the race in power by forcing them to convert religions and language, this ethnic group has been a punching bag for a powerful group. Prior to all these forced changes, Native Americans haven't been seen as an equal race. They weren't viewed as legal American citizens and had to fight for a prolonged period of time to gain such small changes to the human eye, but great changes to Native Americans. They had to live among several segregation laws, being stripped from their rightfully owned land, constantly being ethnically discriminated, and so much more. The struggles of this group in particular has an ongoing list from the past couple of years.

- Native Americans tried to overcome/bring awareness to the injustices they were faced with by having a thirst for justice, freedom, and respect. Their main goal was to achieve some sort of equality to put their ethnic group at an equal level as most groups in America. They committed to doing actions that would in someway bring awareness to their unjustified situation. No matter no matter how much they were discriminated against, or facing the problems of racism, poverty, and violence, they continued to focus on their goals to receive their rights. They pursued many protests, some being occupying Alcatraz Island or embarking on the "Longest Walk," Native Americans fought for several years to try to achieve their goal.

- Current issues Native Americans face in today's society is an immense amount of discrimination in an implicit way, bad living conditions, lack of education, and social challenges. It is clear that the past of this ethnic group has greatly changed the current living situation for them. An example of discrimination they face today is schools/sports teams using them as mascot. This is a very controversial topic and some have brought awareness to the topic and made change, but it still remains a problem today due to the lack of perspective some people may have to realize the severity of the actual problem. The other struggles depend on how the U.S. left them with a small portion of land, not having the correct educational resources, and having a poor mental health leading to drug abuse or suicide (have the highest percentage in). They may have overcome some past struggles, but they still have a handful of current struggles to deal with.

- In the future, I believe this group will gain more civil rights as time passes by, but still have current problems to face. With the history of how they were treated in the past to the long amount of time that needed to pass in order for change to occur in their lives, it may take time for future rights for them to take place. Even if in today's society there is a lot of discrimination still present, we have improved from how it's been in the past, so being completely closed minded to future rights for them to occur seem unreasonable, but imagining that a colored ethnic group like the Native Americans receiving much more in the world is difficult to imagine due to the state of how humans are in today's society.

-Eunice Fulgueras

The history of Mexican Americans, Americans of Mexican descent, largely begins after the annexation of parts of Mexico in 1848, the nearly 80,000 individuals then living in the U.S. became full U.S. citizens. Large-scale new migration augmented their numbers during the 1910s, as Mexico was torn by a high-casualty civil war. Until the 1960s, most lived within a few hundred miles of the border, although some resettled along frail lines from the Southwest to the Midwest. More recently, Mexican Americans have diffused throughout the U.S., especially in the Midwest and Southeast, with the largest numbers in California and Texas. In the past hundred years Mexican-Americans have campaigned for voting rights, stood against educational, employment, and ethnic discrimination and stood for economic and social advancement. At the same time many Mexican-Americans have struggled with defining and maintaining their community's identity.
-Juan Villarreal

one thing that women have overcomed in history would be how they could vote until 1960's and that they went to the public eye for media attention. women were on the news for televison purposes, they were all over newspapers, magazines, ad's, out in public protest. The group tried to over come the struggles by men constently telling them why we need to do one thing and another thing if when we should be a housewife or be in the kitchen making them dinner. The group that women feminism currently are going through right now is how people are either are Pro- life or Pro- choice/ the current abortion laws that are being made. And how congress men are making these laws for women. When women should be making them. I predict that feminism will be worse than it's going right now. In the future the women might have some control but not a lot women will still be shamed by men. - Kayli Silveira

However, most suffragists were arrested and taken to jail, where they would go on a protest again by a hunger strike. They accomplished with letting women have the right to vote.

-African-Americans used to be used only for slavery and after in the 18th century most Northern states had banned slavery but it didn't get any better for them. They were always segregated and treated as if they were not human beings because of their skin color. They tried to fight against these unjust laws in many occasions but they only ended up getting in bigger trouble. For example, when Rosa Parks was standing up for herself in a bus she was immediately arrested and thrown in jail for thinking she deserved a front row seat.
-The Civil Rights Movement was passed to end racial discrimination and gain equal rights under the law. Rosa Parks refusing to give her seat up to a white woman caused a Montgomery bus boycott for a whole year. Many African Americans also coordinated nonviolent protests and marches like The Longest Walk that went from San Francisco to Washington D.C. Finally, they refused to go into places that claimed they were for "blacks only" and proceeded to try to enter "whites only" buildings to fight for equality.
-African Americans are currently still dealing with racism in certain states like Virginia and Maryland. Also, a lot of them have the mindset of a victim or like they don't fit in because of everything that happened in the past. Finally, they have a very bad reputation in many states today and are known to be horrible people and criminals. Because of this, African Americans are always blamed for others' mistakes and sometimes even killed for no certain reason or evidence.
-I believe that the civil rights of this group will be better in the future than it is now because more groups are being accepted and getting more rights to live happily and free. They have civil rights right now but they are still not treated respectfully and equally in all states by every individual..........Estefany Mora

-African Americans struggled getting equality in all of the 1900´s, Segregation was everywhere they had different schools then white kids they had their own water fountains their own stores and the most common part of that segregation known was that they needed to sit in the back of the bus. eventually, They eventually got the rights they wanted and need with the voice of Martin Luther King Jr.

-They had the idea of peaceful protests and used the power of God to get them through the tough times and keep their sanity and peace .

-Currently the African Americans in the United States are facing a ton of violence and racism towards them but not only them. Recently there has also been a lot of police brutality that lead to big protests and worldwide news. Viral Videos are taking over the world of white elderly mostly being racist to young African American kids and not only black kids but as well as the latinś group and every other group. Nobody is safe.

-I believe that African American group will get the peace that they have always wanted, with a lot of effort and non violence i believe they could do it.

-People who weren't considered as straight had to face many struggles during the 1900s. They had to adjust their behaviors and appearance in order to pass as straight because of the social expectations people had. If someone strayed from the traditional gender roles that were assigned during birth then they would end up being characterized as being mentally defective and/or psychopaths. The social pressure would lead some to drug abuse, suicide, and homelessness.
-Some things that the LGBTQ+ community did to try to overcome their struggles was that they would riot, would protest in front of the stone wall fighting back at cops who would try to arrest them , and then lit it on fire to congregate and express how they felt bout the discrimination being thrown at them.
-Some current issues that the Community is facing are that there are still people to this day that discriminate them and belittle them. There has even been cases of shootings in gay bars leading to their deaths. They also fight having acceptance from straight people.
-In the future I predict that people in the LGBTQ+ community will have even more rights and will be accepted in society. I think people will be more respectful towards them and that there won't be anymore violence directed at them.

Jocelyne Noguez

The fight for gay rights has been going on since the early 1920s, but the 1950s was the decade where its issues were more recognized. People in the LGBTQ community were mistaken for communists, and, like other minorities, were being discriminated against. They lost their jobs and were not accepted into society.

Although many people opposed or feared homosexuals, many sided with them and tried to help others realize that they are equals. People wrote books that attempted to help the public learn more about that lifestyle, organizations were created that helped gay men discuss what they were going through, and others even created pro-gay magazines.

We have gone a long way since the age of discrimination and inequality, but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t exist. There are still people who don’t want to accept other people’s lifestyle and are therefore still discriminating the LGBTQ community. They are judged and prejudiced on a daily basis.

Even though some people still don’t accept that lifestyle, many seem to support them and treat them equally, but there is always room for improvement. I believe that we will all eventually welcome the fact that everyone is different and anyone has the freedom to do or be what they want when it comes to their sexuality. Everyone should respect each other and treat everyone equally no matter their preference.

-Jasmine Agueda

From the birth of America women were treated differently than men in social settings, held (or shall I say lowered?) to different -and rather nonsensical- standards, and discriminated against within the workforce. The stereotypical purpose of women within society was expressed, and dare I say encouraged, throughout majority of US history. Women weren’t even allowed to vote until 1920, nearly a century after the women’s suffrage movement started. The goal of this movement, and the feminist movement as a whole, was (is) clear: equality. The willingness of these many courageous women to struggle the way they have should be evidence enough of the importance of the cause.

To overcome these struggles, countless women throughout history engaged in nonviolent campaigns to not only bring awareness to the problems at hand, but inform the patriarchy that they are aware of the forced oppression and discrimination directed toward them, simply because of their sex. Furthermore, I suppose in this case slow and steady wins the race. Women held their ground and their perseverance was eventually, rightfully, rewarded. Speaking out, standing up, and fighting for a stronger role in society demonstrated the women's resilience when fighting against the current of the status quo.

The most recent and profound issue women face today is the loss of their right to control their bodies and receive an abortion. It sounds like a bad idea for a B rated horror film (no offence to B movies, some are actually decent). But no. It’s real life, and just another hard ball being pitched at women (who don’t own a glove in this scenario). I’d just like to point out the fact that doctors can’t use a deceased person’s organs to save another person's life unless the deceased previously signed off saying it was in fact okay. Yet the government gets to decide the actions of a living human being that could physically and mentally need an abortion. At this point a dead person has more rights to their body than a living women.

I’d like to say women rights and the treatment towards them is the equivalent to a mans, however I sadly believe that may not be true in the near future.. If we keep fighting and advocating for change in our hardest times, we give hope to generations to come. Take it from our ancestors, persistence pays off. Maybe generations from now we will get what we deserve and can look back on the ones that helped get us there. Every action, every voice, matters. The small things will build up until...well hopefully until we won’t need them in order to prove a point.

- Sarah Bedford

Mexican Americans had many issues and many struggles. Some of these issues were low-wage, racism and bad working conditions. Ways Mexican Americans overcame these struggles were with nonviolent protests. Cesar Chavez also started a hunger strike. Mexicans stopped consuming products from other countries and also got other countries to stop producing and selling products to the US. A current issue Mexican Americans are struggling with right now is racism, stereotypes and the wall. How things are right now with Mexican Americans, I predict that the future won't be so bright. I think they will be kicked out of the United States.
-Eduardo Hernandez

African Americans have struggled with Segregation at schools at their work and even in public transportation.African Americans also suffered with being insulted by racial slurs and being beat and attacked by racist Americans. They also struggled with voting since voting polls required tax pays and literacy test even though the 15th Amendment was passed which allowed African Americans to vote.In order to overcome their struggles they held marches protest and speeches to raise awareness of how unfair they were being treated.Currently African Americans have equal rights but they still face some racist acts toward them like racial slurs in social media and on the streets and some acts of police brutality from racist cops.I predict that in the future African Americans will face way less discrimination and be treated equally by everyone
-Andrew Perez

-Women would have to stay home and deal with house chores. Their efforts to lead were often overshadowed by men while women wanted to contribute. Women were not able to vote or work outside of the house.
-The Women’s suffrage movement was decades long fight to win the right to vote for women in the US. The 19th amendment was ratified, giving the right to vote to all American women which helped them overcome their struggles
-Now it is no longer uncommon for women to run businesses or hold job titles in the upper ranks of management. Many women now work in a place where before it was only a mans job. There had been a lot of progress but sexism can still be found as well as other struggles.
-I think that women’s rights has gotten better but some people still have a mindset where women are only meant to be in the house.
~Sofia Solorio

Cesar Chavez was a Mexican American farmer and civil rights activist. The Mexican American farmers worked in harsh and sometimes dangerous working conditions. Cesar recognized this and set out to fix these problems of unfair injustice in the work place. He set out a group of Mexican American farmers and they went out and protested for their rights. Cesar studied and realized the best method is through a non violent methods. The group accomplished getting rights and the organization grew. Today the Mexican American workers struggle with low wages and trying to get better or safer jobs or jobs in general. I predict with growing awareness of some of the unjustifiable deeds that are happening the civil rights will be better for the group.

-Eddie Delgado

As the Civil Rights Movement was being passed, women decided to hop in and stand for themselves. The way women were treated before feminism was described as "being treated like African Americans when racism was allowed." There are different ways that people decided to take justice. Some feminists decided to take birth control pills to reduce the chance of giving birth to not be a "House Wife". Other feminists decided to burn their bras, high heeled shoes, and a bunch of stuff that stereotyped women. I believe that women should be treated equally. Then again, the way feminism is now, it is just a war about which gender is superior instead of actually being equal which is completely ignorant. I believe that we should all be treated equally as humans as it was intended.

on June the national federal assembly of France passed the miguet amendment that stands for homosexuality, alcoholism and prostitution. Before during the 1960's most people that were homosexual struggled if they wanted to join the military or other type jobs.they also struggle with adopting children and if they wanted to get marry. During the world war two homosexual men were send to concentration camps just because their sexuality. Many people tried making groups and or other type ways to make society understand them. Many organizations were created to try overcome the struggle. Many homosexual people still suffer from racism because of what they are. Many cant get jobs just how it was before even thought things were calm a little.I believe that in the future lbgtq people are going to be living happy without an issue because people are slowly understanding that people are free to be whatever they want to be.
-Erandi barriga

- The Civil Rights Movement have dramatically affected women. Women faced gender discrimination and sexual harassment during the movement which led to the feminist movement to come about. Gender equality was difficult to achieve and stills today. There is still praise in men for their successes in history and also now.
- By protesting and demanding for many rights such as equal pay or the right to vote, their voices were heard and they were granted with voting rights in the year 1920. Women have continue to stand their ground in what they believe in and what they deserve.
- Some current issues that women still face today is inequality in pay, harassment, and student debt. Inequality in pay has always affected women. Men have always had the higher pay. Women do make up the majority of the workforce but receive lower paying jobs because of the job discrimination and pay inequality.
- I believe the discrimination against women will never disappear but as we women start our adult lives, are voices are as important as any other woman's voice. This is a crucial time period that we face because we continue to face many struggles. Our voices can be heard and taken into account to change certain matters. I think there will always be a bigotry in all aspects of society and future generations. Our beliefs do matter.

Yesenia Palomino

- The struggles African Americans had to deal with is that they were slaves, couldn't vote, didn't have rights, they also had to be segregated from schools and other places. They also had to deal with discrimination and they were beaten.
- In August 1963 250,000 people gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C aka the March on Washington for jobs and freedom. This event aimed to draw attention to continuing challenges and the inequalities faced by African Americans. This was also the occasion of Martin Luther King, Jr's "I Have A Dream" speech.
- Some of the current issues the African American's are facing/ struggling with is discrimination because recently Walmart has been accused of discrimination for locking up African- American beauty products
- What I predict the civil rights of African Americans will look like in the future is that myself and other African Americans will deal with racist people because they just see us as slaves, killers, robbers, just because we are black or African Americans.
-Ruby Sims

One of the groups of people who came to America were the Chinese, and as any new group of people coming to America, they came in large numbers.however the American Government thought that those numbers were a bit to big and decided to harshly put into place, The Chinese exclusion Act of 1882. this act effectively stopped the immigration of Chinese completely, the act barred the immigration of Chinese to America for ten years. It also prevented Chinese residence from naturalizing as American citizens. this act was renewed many times as well, not allowing a separated family to reunite. Chinese citizens were also not given the same rights as other regular citizens, they had to get section six certificates, papers that proved they were citizens. they would have to carry them at all times as well in order to avoid potential deportation, once the the act was finally disband, the incoming Chinese had to make it through Angel Island, which was not as pretty as it sounds. It was an extremely difficult check point and many were sent back, or imprisoned there for up to two years. War and problems inside the country made most American citizens have a distasteful attitude towards the Chinese however, it did get better. Yuji Ichioka was credited with the creation of the term "Asian American" he and many Chinese felt that the term oriental was something people walked on. just two years after that forty organizations multiple news papers and community conferences were flying the Asian American flag. The third world Liberation Front Strikes in 1968 -69 was in important moment in their fight for civil rights, one strike known as "the Asian contingent"still holds the true to being the longest student strike in American History. While they still face discrimination till this day, just like any ethnicity, it does look much better than it used to be. Who knows? maybe in eighty years racial discrimination will be a thing of the past.
-Ricardo Gonzalez

Mexican Americans have been around for years. They have struggled like many of the ethnic groups in the United States. They have struggled with the lack of resources that would help them fight for civil rights. But as time went on they gained that confidence and protested discrimination.
To fight for the awareness of civil rights many people did boycotts, strikes and more. An example of some of these things are organizations that have helped fight for the discrimination was the league of the united Latin Americans citizens. A person who protested for equal rights is Cesar Chavez.
Mexican Americans are now struggling to enter the united states. Our president is worried that" to many immigrants entering the united states. He is not allowing immigrants to enter our country. This doing effects chicanos to continue their education and hold them back from improving their own lives,
Chicanos continue to increase in the united states. I believe that in the future they will not have as many problems as they do now when entering in the country to better there lives. Now the government allowing immigrants to come in will always have some kind of problem however hopefully they want have the problems they have now.
Shyanna caldera

- The group struggled with discrimination and segregation. The group became slave workers and were seen as property of white people . African Americans were beaten if they didn't do as told and were often sent to jail if they stood out. African Americans were not allowed to eat in the same restaurants as white people, their children had to attend "black only" schools and they weren't able to drink from the same drinking fountain. The white people would apply taxes to things so African Americans couldn't be able to afford them. Even when African Americans were able to vote by law, white people, in order to prevent them, would set a literacy test since most were uneducated.
-At first the group would travel up north, where slavery had been abolished by the end of the 18th century, to try to avoid slavery. Many people, like Harriet Tubman, escaped or ran away from slavery. As time went on more people, like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, Took action or spoke publicly against racial inequality.
- To this day African Americans still struggle with racial equality. It happens every day whether it is in the streets, the work place or even in schools. I have seen it many times where a group of Africa Americans were waling down the street and a woman or man would walk across the street to avoid the group.
- Hopefully in the future everyone in the world including black people will be treated equally among each other but, there will always be people who truly believe that they are better because of the color of their skin.
-Rigo Hernandez.

The Jim Crow Laws and Brown v. the Board of Education help to end the segregation between whites and African Americans. The Jim Crow Laws and Brown v. the Board of education not only ended segregation in public places for adults, but for children that had to fight segregation in schools. The Jim Crow Laws and Brown v. the Board of education brought awareness of extreme racism and segregation towards the African American Community. The school board took the Jim Crow Laws to trial saying that it was unlawful and unconstitutional. The African American community still faces some racism from the white community and some of the whites still believe that the community should still be segregated and some of them even believe that being African American was contagious and was something that you could avoid. The African American community may struggle with additional racism and the possibility of the possible segregation that can occur. The 14th amendment states that it is unlawful and unconstitutional to be a segregated community or a segregated community. The 14th Amendment fights the unlawful acts of the racism.
-Jillian Michel

Mexican American history has gone as far as the 1900s and since then, they have been struggling with civil rights till this day. In 1903, more than 1,200 Mexican and Japanese farm workers organized the first farm worker union. If it weren't for the Mexican Americans, we wouldn't have any of that. In 1910, the Mexican Revolution forced Mexicans to organize against social Injustice. These are some examples of the struggles that Mexican Americans have had since the 1900s. The Mexican Americans have brought awareness to their struggles by getting into more serious situations like how they weren't getting paid enough. They took matters into their own hands to try and make things right for them. Some current issues that they're facing are that if they have to have a green card to be able to do anything out of Mexico and some people can't get them because they might not qualify for one and once they're 18, they are considered too old to get help from DACA and other groups. Another struggle is that because of the immigration issues, the Mexican Americans can't get jobs or at least a decent job legally and they are treated differently than everyone else sometimes. I believe that in the future, the Mexican Americans will still struggle with some issues because of immigration problems and because of racial issues, but hopefully these issues will decrease and get better than they are at this very second.
_ Jasmine Castro

The Asian American Movement had a social, racial, and political change in the U.S and reached its peak during the 1960s and mid-1970s. Prior to this, there was a widespread belief in the U.S that Asian immigrants would threaten the western civilization. Therefore, it led to incidents like the Chinese Exclusion Act and Japanese internment camps. Some struggles they had to go through were that they had the idea that they were to fit in with the trend of westernization. This lead to much self-hatred and sense of unworthiness within the cultures. Inspiration from the Black Liberation Movement, lead Asian Americans to stray away from these ideals and create their own movement. The most impactful organization was the Asian American Political Alliance (AAPA). Unlike prior activism, they embraced a pan-Asian focus. This brought together former separated groups within Asian American communities. This organization helped create quotas that allowed at least 20,000 immigrants (from each country) were permitted to enter the U.S beginning in 1956. Current challenges that this ethnicity might face would be the general stereotypes and racial discrimination that still persisted decades ago. Although these racial issues have diminished vastly over the years, it will still take awhile for these groups to be fully accepted.
~Marlen Herrera

Women’s Civil Rights Continues

Over the years women have been fighting for what theirs, their Civil Rights. Since the 1800’s women have been on the search for their rights. Women were given roles such as staying home mom, or nurse. Bach them women didn’t have many options to choose from to work. It wasn’t until the 1900’s that they were given the right to vote. This gave women power to decide for themselves. However today women still aren’t heard and are told to do things against their will. Today women are ordered to carry a child they didn’t wish for. Abortion is a problem for women today. Many women are raped and get pregnant. Women are forced to carry a child that their abuser left them. Some of these pregnancies can end their lives. Some people are ignorant enough to blame women for this unwanted abuse.
Michelle caballer
