This was a battle between the north Vietnamese under Ho Chi Minh and the French. The French thought that they were making a good strategic move but they really got trapped in a valley with the North Vietnamese surrounding them. The French lost this battle.

This battle was significant because it was the final blow that drove the French out of Vietnam. It also resulted in the French loosing their colonial power in Asia.

The Geneva Convention was a get together between The US, the soviet union, France, Great Britain, and some of the countries from south east Asia including representatives of North and South Vietnam.

This is significant because it was a conference that discussed the future of Vietnam. At the convention Vietnam was also split into North and South at the 17th parallel.

This event occurred in disputed waters outside of Vietnam. It is reported that a North Vietnamese ship fired on a US ship that was currently in international waters, however there are many different stories floating around. All we know is that shots were fired.

This is important because it started the United state's involvement in the Vietnam War.

This battle was early on in the war following the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

This is important because it caused president Johnson to start a bombing campaign against the North vietnamese.

This was a city in south Vietnam that was taken over by the north vietnamese during the Hue- Da Nang campaign. This was a major city for the south vietnamese as well as an airbase for US troops. The North vietnamese surrounded the airbase and laid siege to the base. They killed everyone there.

This is important because it showed the strength of the North vietnamese. Also It was a tactical win for the north vietnamese because the US lost an airbase.

This was a large military offensive by the north vietnamese that started on the Vietnamese new year, or Tet, as they call it. This was one of the largest attacks in the war, but all of the attacks were surprise because normally this is a major holiday.

This is important because many people call this the turning point in the war. The initial attack caught the US troops off guard but they quickly regained control of the situation and ended up pushing the North Vietnamese back. They suffered many casualties and never really came back from it. Also US opinion of the war led to even less support for the war.

Name given to the communist party in Cambodia. Many of these people were formally a part of the North vietnamese army. They are best known for organizing the Cambodian massacre.

This is important because this group really came into power as the US was leaving Vietnam, this was viewed by the US public as the war did not do anything to stop communism in fact more ended up at the end. This furthered the bad opinion of the war in the US.

This war was very influencing on the US public. In Fact today this was one of the most hated wars in all of US history. There was much hate directed towards the US government because of what they did during the war. It also effected how the Government censors what can and can't go on TV in relation to war. Another thing is that the president still has some power to send troops into countries without declaring war on that country, for example Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan we have not declared war on yet we still have troops fighting there.
