Since January, Texas has proposed 52 anti-trans bills and all of those bills have been defeated by the testifying of parents and trans kids. One of the kids that testified said that she has been playing sports with her classmates for three years and they did not even know she was trans until this year. When they found out, they were not even bothered by the information. Another bill was passed as well, one way more terrifying. Texas passed a bill that would bar healthcare workers/providers from giving gender-affirming care to children (like gender therapy) and would go as far as to charging the parents and workers with child abuse. Parents and children are still advocating but it is taking a huge toll on the mental health of them and other LGBTQ members in the state. There has even been an increase in calls to the LGBTQ crisis hotline. These events have caused families financial, physical, and mental strain. But many experts say it comes down to America's dangerous combination of toxic masculinity and gun availability.

What can be done?
  1. Prevention: teaching boys how to understand emotions and trauma
  2. Better systems for crisis training
  3. Internet companies, especially social media platforms, must be pressured to better regulate hateful rhetoric and content (because potential mass shooters often look online for others who validate their thoughts and feelings, or research past or potential shooters)
  4. Regulate access to guns (require background checks for all states), Substantive legislative change (an update to the Violence Against Women Act that would include a provision that would prevent abusive dating partners or alleged stalkers from accessing a gun)

When it comes to male mass shooters, Peterson said many tend to have an attitude that "the world owes me more than what I have."

"They feel disappointed where they're at in life, or they feel frustrated that they lost their job or that they can't get a girlfriend or whatever it is ... so they pick a target of who to blame, whether they pick women or their school or a racial group,"
