His family was well educated. Mark had three sisters Randi, Donna, and Arielle. Mark was interested in computers at a very young age. At 12 years old he used Atari basic to create a messaging program called zucknet. Marks father Edward used zucknet at his dental office, so that he could be alerted when a new patient came without one of the receptionists yelling. Mark later attended Phillips Exeter Academy. The school was an exclusive high school in New Hampshire

He chose to go to Harvard University in Massachusetts. In his second year at Harvard Mark already had a reputation around campus. He was known for software developing because of his program he made called coursematch . Coursematch was a program that allowed students to pick their courses based on what their friends were taking. He also invented facemash. Face mash was a program that allowed students to look at two pictures and choose who they thought was more attractive. This program later got shut down for being too inappropriate and some kids were getting upset. In 2003 Mark agreed with three of his fellow students Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss, and Divya Narendra to help them create a website called harvardconnection which was a program that let students connect with each other. Mark helped them until he and his friends Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Eduardo Saverin came up with the idea of Facebook. Facebook was a program that let students post pictures and communicate with other users. Mark dropped out of college to work on Facebook full time. Facebook blew up reaching 1 million dollars in the end of 2004.

Businesses like Yahoo! and Accel offered Zuckerburg a lot of money. Yahoo! offered Zuckerburg 1 billion dollars for the whole website. Zuckerburg decided to decline the offer. A lot of people didn't like this decision but looking back on this today Zuckerburg made the right decision. In 2006 The Harvard connection filed a law suit against Zuckerburg for him supposedly stealing their idea. Under their settlement, Facebook agreed to pay The Harvard Connection $20 million in cash and 1,253,326 shares of common stock.
