It relates to transcendentalism because it is about nature and how it brings forth happiness to people. Nature is the only pure thing that is free from the corrupting influences of society due to its norms.

This simple, yet powerful quote demonstrates that nature and seclusion are the only way to truly be free. There is depth way beyond the basic and minimal appearance of this quote. Its important to recognize that when it comes to doing as you feel, true freedom is only obtained through becoming "wild". It teaches you to forget people disagreeing with your way of life because your values are all that matter.

"Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
just one more time"

Don't stop believing' is a song that is about staying true to your own values and beliefs. This concept is precisely what the transcendentalist concept of self reliance is about. The selected lyrics above show that by urging to roll the dice people are gambling lots to try and make their life better by obtaining things like money. Journey is disagreeing with this philosophy, they want people to follow what makes them happy, and no matter how difficult times may get, don't stop believing!

"Its my life
Its now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just wanna live while i'm alive"

The powerful lyrics of this song describe nonconformity by stating to not just be another face in the crowd, be you and own it. This mindset is parallel with Thoreau's by doing things on your own terms, and marching to your own beat. Along with this, Bon Jovi delves into an idea that models the logic behind carpe diem by "living while i'm alive" and seizing the moment.

A Harlem Man’s First Steps Toward Self-Reliance

By. John Otis

A lesson to be learned from this article is that when society wants something for you, but your passion is elsewhere, follow what makes you happy. Self reliance is all a man needs to be successful by his own standards. People often confuse the societal norms with being the right thong to do, that is simply not true. There is no defined, 'right thing" to do, there is only what an individual thinks is right, and isn't.
