This would be followed by multiple French invasions. Eventually, Haiti would gain its independence. Jean-Jacques Dessalines would also play a key role in the revolutions, by declaring Haiti an independent nation.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many people who lived Brazil wanted independence. Creoles especially wanted to be independent. When the Portuguese royal family fled to Brazil to escape Napoleon's invasion, they found the country to be very nice to live in. When they went back to Portugal, the king's son, Pedro I wanted to stay in Brazil and become independent. A petition was held, it passed, and Brazil was born without the need for bloodshed.</div>]]></description>

He led a slave revolt on the island, and amassed armies of thousands of slaves. Eventually, he was successful. He emancipated all the slaves of Haiti, and gave Haiti independence. He found himself ruler of the entire island of Hispanolia.</div>]]></description>
