Usually bottling up something so affective could drain you and for their own betterment I want to be there for them and have them put their trust in me and take it as a no judgement zone.

One vulnerable group/community that I would like to help as an Ally are those who are refugees and newcomers, specifically children and youth who are people of colour, that face mental health issues and other related concerns. Moving and adjusting to a new country can have a huge impact on one's emotional, mental and physical well-being and often times these issues make this group susceptible to other risk factors. As an Ally, I want to be able to advocate for them, address the barriers they face and promote ways to reduce these risk factors by helping create more safe spaces for them and providing culturally appropriate care.

I feel as a mother and a woman for bringing up a normal and developed society women should aware of their rights and be educated more not to be abused or neglected. Especially for understanding, their own identity as being apart of the LGBTQ community. Often, children are not only struggling with coming out to loved ones but also still dealing with the battles of being a youth. Giving each LGBTQ youth a chance to be them, I would be an ally to firmly being 100% themselves in a world that can be harsh at times will only make their experience of being themselves stronger. Joining or creating a wide variety of outlets that are 100% inclusionary. I would start with youth found homeless due to their adult figures in their life, kicking them out for wanting to be 100% themselves and happy in their skin.

First of all, I would want to spread awareness that the mental health group shouldn't be taken lightly and it is a very serious matter, despite age and gender. The advice I'll provide to people who are seeking help to fight against mental health is, speaking to someone who you trust and can listen and understand the your conflicts, for example, parents, best friends, doctors, etc. However, I would also request the trusted person to please take care of the person who is seeking help because mental health recovery isn't a short process.

Speaking as a living testimony its a very difficult job parenting a child with a disability. Families with multiple children and single parents with no help can face it the hardest. I can honestly say that this experience can take everything you have. Without proper help and support, it can destroy your physical and or mental wellbeing. This experience can place families into different categories, for example, leaving them tired sad angrily disappointed, or discouraged. Those are some of the reasons why I would like to work with this group.

LGBT+ youth are exceptionally vulnerable to a number of other modes of oppression; they experience higher rates of mental health issues, suicide, and poverty, especially when they are also POC. I think normalizing conversation around LGBT topic at a young age could prove beneficial to lots of children who struggle to understand their thoughts and emotions regarding their place in the world and their relationships with others.

I would like to become an ally with young and/or older women who may have been a victim of sexual and/or domestic abuse. I am able to be listening board and a safe place to let them be free. Given my experience myself, I am able to somewhat at least put myself in their shoes. It is a topic that I believe sometimes gets a lot of opinions that are ignorant to the actual situation one faces. It is not as easy as just walking away and it is a scar that stays with that person for ever. I have always treasured the work that probation officers do with inmates who are fresh out of prison, the community of those people face oppression on a daily basis and many of them go completely unheard based on their past, whether it is their fault or not. Getting out of prison can be scary enough and when all the doors in front of you are being shut it just kills any motivation to becoming a better human, and that needs to change! I want them to be heard and accepted, perhaps find a way to ease them into society and daily life style.

I would like to help at-risk/troubled youth. Ones teenage and young adult years are what essentially molds them into the adult they will become. Those critical years are important, especially for those who can easily go down the wrong path due to their surroundings and upbringings. By aiding youth during those critical times, they're less likely to end up in negative situations and more likely to become successful adults. Instead of punishing people when they're adults, I believe it's our responsibility to prevent those negative outcomes by providing the support many youth need. However, most at-risk youth are looked over and forgotten about due to the assumptions many people make about them, when in reality they're children desperately in need of help and denied the support they so badly need and deserve. Once I become a social worker, I hope to end the cycle of youth being neglected by authority and be the positive influence in their lives in order to help them succeed.

Even if they aren't refugees per say, their home-countries don't feel safe. Seniors in long term care facilities like nursing homes or even those at home with family are at high risk of being abused. This abuse can be physically, mentally or sexually or even financially abused. Seniors are vulnerable because many suffer from physical or mental disease and can't communication that they are being abused. The MMIW movement (missing and murdered indigenous women) aims to protect indigenous women in North America, as they are extremely vulnerable to physical abuse and harm, and the statistics on abducted and murdered indigenous women have sky rocketed. Being an ally to this community means being respectful of their culture, traditions, and way of life. Many indigenous communities are ridiculed and treated poorly because of their culture, when in reality we have stolen their ancestors land and abused indigenous communities for centuries. On top of acknowledging the historical context, one must be personally dedicated to educating themselves as much as possible in order to be a good ally. Then using that knowledge, one must advocate for the MMIW movement and help make our society a better place to protect these women from any future harm. Finally, letting indigenous women be heard is extremely important, as their voices are often silenced when it comes to speaking on their human rights which have been violated for centuries.

I have chosen to be an ally to the first nations community. I know I will never understand all the issues they face; but they are one of the most vulnerable and oppressed communities in Canada ( I must add that I am not saying that they are the only vulnerable or oppressed group in canada ). One thing I can do to help this group is remove any unconscious biases I may already have and been taught to have about them. By doing this, I will gain a new set of lenses to view and learn about their plight as it is complex and more than alcoholism, residential schools, fight over land and education. As all biases become removed I can then stand and pick-up my sign alongside them rejecting popular news that limit and reduce their oppression and plight to only “not wanting to assimilate with the rest of us” or to just “a fight over land mass”. It is with this first step that I can at least begin my journey as an ally to the first nations community of canada.

I also experieced this first hand in one of my previous relatioships and learned how the cycle of abuse works. I've learned just how dangerous domestic violence can be for people, especialy women. Some of them intended to play the role of the adult because of the lack of English their parents can speak. Some of them might not have a chance to receive financial help for school, and some of them do not have the privilege to go off to whatever college or even university due to status. Some of the girls are even more vulnerable because they might be taken advantage of. With someone with status and having the knowledge of some of the experience, none status people face. Substance use disorder in indigenous community is seen as normal behavior not minding the consequences. Alcoholism among the indigenous community has lead to increase imprisonment for alcohol related violent and non violent crimes. However economic, educational and socialization struggles may have a great influence. Some indigenous community believed that they basically prone to gulping down illict substances because of their gene.

As an Ally, I will organize a health awareness show engaging the large community and small families and media campaigns on increased cigarettes price and tax.
Also adolescent programs because the indigenous youth are primarily influenced by household members for e.g if a father is smoking there is a likely hood that his children will also smoke.

what i can do to them as an ally is i will set a meeting and listen to them i will ask them what exactly they need to ease the burden, then i will start to work on that. i will introduce the the livelihood program in order for them to have another source of income.

I would prefer to work with these groups because I would be able to help families to establish and grow in a new country, as they try to settle in. There are a lot of demands that come with settling in a new country especially with those who are alone and without relatives to help guide them. There are a lot of unknowns for them and as an Ally I think I can help provide a beginning for them. Helping them to access settlement services, getting official documents in order and filled out properly, finding out what is important for their needs and wants. If they have children then helping to find direction to help them register in schools, and in some cases learn a new language. I would be able to relate my own experiences as a newcomer at a young age and would be able to understand their needs to some degree. As someone who speaks different languages I would be able to make them feel comfortable and would be able to develop a bridge of understanding. Support is the most important factor for a newcomer. I have a pet and have been close to being homeless, so it hurts me to see people in that situation still trying to care for their pets. Living without boundaries, without war and domestic conflict is a dream for us who hope to live in harmony with everyone regardless of skin colour, religion; cultural belief and education. As a newcomer myself, immersing to the community is a process and adapting to the way of life of people in Toronto is not an instant. Even I did an initial research on what to expect, upon arriving here, I felt that my knowledge is still lacking. Although I successfully survived my first 2 weeks attending the school; every commute, there are moments that I think I'm lost especially on the issue of seeking for a job. On one hand, I was happy to meet new friends whom I built my allyship. Surely,without them, I would really think that I will experience difficulty in navigating the daily life in Toronto.

Now that I personally experienced some challenges in adapting Toronto's life, I am seeing myself to be an ally of newcomers and refugees once I complete my program at Seneca. I can't imagine a family who decided to leave their country and travelled to Canada for a safer and better life to face with difficulty and feel lost. Globally, about 51,100 women and girls are killed by their intimate partner or family member each year. That's 51,100 lives too many, and my aspiration as a future social worker is to bring awareness about domestic abuse and save lots of lives by helping such a vulnerable community of victims. It's also very important for us all as social work students to learn about issues like this and find ways to be an ally for domestic violence victims. Doing this can prevent deaths all thanks to our actions. I have also personally known victims of domestic violence and abuse and have been in their shoes as well which got me to actually know what domestic violence is like as well as the psychology of these victims, the trauma responses they give and just overall observing how they live their everyday lives after the trauma they went through, which made me very interested in learning about domestic abuse as a whole and ways I could potentially help others going through the same issue. Some ways to help client going through domestic violence is discussing all the emergency and safety planning which comes with being knowledgeable about crisis lines they could reach, safe homes they could shelter in and how to report your abuser as safely as possible. This group needs emotional support, which can be offered by being empathetic and understanding of their situation. They also need an ally because this group is often stigmatized by society making it very stressful, mental health support would be needed.

I would love to support this group, as I believe I resonate with them a lot. Their experiences or stories really move me personally. I can actively listen to a survivor of domestic violence with empathy and without judgment. I will provide a safe space for them to share their experiences at their own pace and offer support and resources when needed.

By listening and validating their feelings, I can help the survivor feel safe, understood, and not alone. This support can reduce feelings of fear, shame, or isolation and empower them to take steps toward healing and making positive changes in their life. Being a consistent and caring presence shows them that someone believes in them and is there to support their journey.

I did choose this vulnerable group because I think that it is not one of the most visible cases for the rest of the community, maybe because of the fear that the girls can face, or the sense that they can't be helped.

I have seen a lot of films that show how terrible this situation is, and I really would like to help the victims so they don't feel like they are alone here.

I will support them by teaching and helping them with the path to get a work permit, how to find a legit job, and also showing and telling them about all the emotional treatment that they could find to help them grow and settle in this place, if that is what they want. Empower them regarding what they can achieve and ask for in our community, helping them to not be scared of been chase for whoever bringed it here.

I chose this vulnerable group because, more and more, we see how drugs are easily accessible to youth. Drug use is never the root problem; there are many underlying issues at hand that need to be addressed. In the case of newcomers, there are many emotional conflicts involved; drugs serve as an escape to help cope with these. Also, there are many youth who already come from their country of origin with an addiction. Probably, they never received the proper treatment and/ or support to help them overcome this problem. As a helper, I would recommend they connect with the appropriate services available to address their mental health condition. I would also recommend that they connect with youth support groups in the community to help them engage in new and healthier activities, as well as to meet new people.

When it comes to survivors of domestic violence, I want to be able to take upon the role as a listener and making sure that I would stand by their sides as to help remind them that they are not alone. It would be hard for them to go through this alone as they would often face silenced and fear due to what they had experienced so by having someone there to validate their experiences and feelings can make a great different within their healing journey. Through this action, it helps create a safe space where they would feel less alone, respected, and supported which can continue to lessen the blame that they had put on themselves and the fear of what would happen next. Through the support, this can empower them and I can also help them out in reaching out for other resources and rebuild the confidence that has been lost. When it comes to being an ally, it gives them a reminder that they deserve their own safety and that they have a support system where they are cared for.

I personally have not been a victim of domestic violence, just the thought of violence in a house is appalling. I tend to think of a home as a safe place where we let go of all our stress and fears from the outside world. I can't imagine coming home and being violated everyday. I would like to learn from the survivors the psychological reasons behind these violences and heal them or make them slowing come out of it.

first we can only see the extent of the violence and see what we can do moving forward. I would like to know how a victim can be counselled, be independent in the future. I think women in the domestic atmosphere still choose to stay for kids, family and society. We have to break the stereotype and get out of these horrible situations.

Feminista Jones reminded us that she does not think of us as an ally, but social work needs co-conspirators. So, as the vulnerable group, I would like to give my support to the refugees with PTSD. Many doctors or therapists say many refugees start to develop PTSD symptoms in the first three months after a trauma event. As a person who has experience with PTSD symptoms, I managed to overcome it. I can give support to refugees who have PTSD symptoms by being a trustable best friend whom they are welcome to share their triggers, bad flashback events and general life concerns. Whether it is a boy or a girl, I will try my best to connect them with friends who are at the same age instead of preventing them from isolating themselves while I am not around. I will be available through individual support for them because the best support they do always appreciate is to talk with people who appreciate the effort they have made to share their worries. I guess if I have a chance to meet with refugees who have PTSD symptoms, I will try my best to add my support by working with their doctor, counseling, the happiest record, by learning what triggers those bad memories, what they like to do to calm down, to tell a motivating story which might help to rebuild hope, emotion confidence, lovely and dream again. I hope by paying attention to all I mentioned above, refugees with PTSD symptoms can feel relaxed and advocated by my existence.

As a new immigrant, I can help them with my personal experience. From the bottom of my heart, I can understand how many obstacles a person will encounter when coming to a strange country. For people in poverty, I can try to contact some support institutions to help them get through it for a short time. I choose this community because I can only imagine how difficult and tragic is for this girls being trafficked, and one way for me to ally with this vulnerable community is to help in the recovery after they get rescued, to help them through therapy, emocional and psychological support, and to help organizations to achieve any goals in funding for resources for this young girls. Newcomer youth with addiction are a vulnerable group because they often face multiple challenges at the same time, such as language barriers,culture shock,trauma from migration, discrimination, and lack of social support. These stressors can increase the risk of substance use as a coping mechanism.

Helping newcomers recognize that addiction is a medical and a social issue rather than a moral failing. Helping them get resources for physical and mental health.

Having a social worker with lived experience will make the client feel more comfortable.

Help them to find support services like addiction/mental health services in their language

Being non judgemental towards the client while also building trust/rapport with the client.

Empowering the client by setting them up with community supports such as NA/AA.

I want to work as an ally for refugees living with PTSD because I understand how deeply trauma can shape a person's sense of safety, identify, and hope. Refugees often carry the weight of war, displacement, and loss while trying to rebuild their lives in unfamiliar systems that don't always see their pain. Respecting the cultural differences and having an open mind and hearing them out instead of always voicing our opinions. I chose this group because they are resilient yet misunderstood. Our group will be exploring the challenges indigenous single mothers facing homelessness. As a group we came together to bring together the different groups of interest we would like to be allies with. This specific population encompasses that and allows us to explore a marginalized population of women who face violence, and systemic inequity at a higher rate than most. A single mother in need of support is already a big issue, adding on that they're indigenous, increases their risks of violence and accessibility to resources. Considering that the individual is a single mother, there's the addition of her children that will need supports also.

Ways we can support her:

Indigenous Single mom, two kids, in Toronto.
Find her a safe community space to reach out too, for networking.
Solidarity: what is her priority? - we need to consider her needs. We cannot assume anything. Basic life needs. Rent and groceries, income/employment, access to medical, community health center.
Co conspiratorship: Centering with her needs, linking her to different non-profit organizations or charities that may be able to direct her in regards to her community people.
