She was born a slave in Maryland. She was born in 1822. When she was 27 years old, she escaped slavery. Harriet was a hero because she helped people escape slavery in the 1850's.
 Harriet wasn't okay with slavery, so she helped people in the North escape slavery. Using the underground railroad she helped family  and other slaves escape. She was very brave and very smart. She risked her life for many people.
