Gender plays a vital role in Macbeth. I.e when lady Macbeth hears about the prophecy she says "Unsex me" because she wants to loose her femine side (caring, loving etc). She also uses her definition of a man whose masculinity to convince Macbeth to go through with the murder of Duncan. The feeling of guilt is a main theme in Macbeth. For example when Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking, while the doctor and the gentlewoman are watching her, and she is trying, however not succeeding in washing her hands clean. This becomes a symbol of her feeling of guilt from being involved in the killing of King Duncan - and thereby turning the chain of being upside down. Another example is when the two murderes return to tell Macbeth that they managed to kill Banquo. Afterwards Macbeth is haunted by Banquo's ghost, who is sitting in his seat at the table. In both the book and the movie, the three witches is present. As both a reader and a viewer we don't know whether they are supernatural or if they actually exist. Macbeth has a desire to gain power, and maybe Macbeth doesn't really doubt whether they are a construction he made himself, or if they are actually real, because he is blinded by himself achieving power.
In both the movie and the book, Macbeth sees a ghost of his friend Banquo. Of course he isn't real but he represents the guilt he feels towards his deeds. In the play, the two main characters, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth, both acquire qualities in the beginning, which turn out to be facades.
For example, Lady Macbeth wishes to be 'unsexed', but she later walks in her sleep and expresses a heavy feeling of guilt and vulnerability which eventually turns into suicide. Both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth feel guilt caused by their bloody actions (murders). Towards the end Lady Macbeth feels the heavy guilt of her actions when she tries to wash the blood of the daggers (in the movie), and when she walks in her sleep (in the book) and talks about that she can’t wash the blood of her hands. After the murder of Banquo, Macbeth sees his ghost, which is a sign of the guilt he feels. Lady Macbeth keeps a passionate front until it unexpectedly gets too much for her, and cracks form in her facade. She is weaker than Macbeth (at least in the movie). The psychological impact on Lady Macbeth is bigger than on Macbeth, which shows as he is more succesful at regaining his strength, and he only has the low point at the dinner. The child's ghost appears in the scene where Lady Macbeth sits on the floor, crying and talking to the child's ghost in a church 
 
Another supernatural aspect is the fact that three witches and their two children appear several times throughout the movie. The witches are only seen out on the battlefield, like they appear out of nothing and disappear the same way

Lady Macbeth is the centre of how gender roles is explained in the play. In the beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth is the one who takes decisions and she is the one to decides what Macbeth should do - and here: kill King Duncan. She is in charge of the plans at the beginning and this is not how the society expected women to act at that time. There is a great difference between ambition and power. Both Malcom and Macbeth do a great job gaining the throne but is not satisfied or able to handle it after achieving it. The play and movie shows no sign of free will, as we see all of the prophecies from the witches come true. Especially in the movie, we see examples of how the belief in fate bounds someone to act - for example, Macbeth could easily have killed Macduff in the end of the movie, but he seems discouraged after he realises that Macduff is not of woman, which during to the prophecy would lead to Macbeth’s death. In this scene, the free will of Macbeth is being suppressed by his belief in fate.

The witches plays a major role in the play and in the movie, because they are the ones who makes Macbeth aware of his possibilities of having power/being king. The witches follows and watches Macbeth especially during the movie. This is seen in the last scenes, when Macbeth is fighting against Macduff, and the witches watches them, like if they knew it was going to happen. 
Their prophecies are taken very seriously by the characters in the play, and especially by Macbeth.

The story of Macbeth enlightens the theme of ambition and power. Macbeth has a lot of ambition towards becoming king, and it makes him unable to see the consequenes of his actions. Towards the end we see how his ambitions take over, and he walks around in circles in his bedroom, because the power has gone to his head, and he seems like he can't comprehend what power has brought him. He has become mad and numb towards emotions and the impact his actions has on others.
