In the novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the main character, Junior, is at times ashamed of his Native American culture, and wishes he was a white American. This is very similar to Amy's conflict between her, and her traditional Chinese culture. Both character's experience embarrassment and shame due to their non-American culture, but both learn to embrace who they are, and in the end, were both able to stay true to themselves.
