We need to make ourselves real to our students so they can empathize with us and vise versa.  Know that our students often expect us to react in a certain way to situations, and try to step outside the realm and "walk a mile" in their shoes.          <description><![CDATA[<p>I really love these conversations and I absolutely support focusing on equity in the sense of truly meeting the needs of all our students. Recognizing bias and how we can confront this is great. That said, I do want to say my only reservation is in regard to putting this solely on teachers. I believe this is part of our responsibility but it takes a village. A major problem in education, and sadly our school isn't an exception to this, is we put way too much of this responsibility on the teachers. Teachers have a lot on their plates especially with large class sizes so they can't do this alone. I feel we really need to do better with not blaming teachers and finding ways that they fall short. There is only so much that a teacher can feasibly do especially when they are the only teacher in the room. So, I think this is important work, but we do need to be mindful to not place all the burden on the teachers to do this work and help to meet the diverse needs of our students.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>
