This is because hydroelectric power will always work anywhere there is flowing water as long as the water cycle is being fueled by the sun. Solar power and wind power are both very expensive. Solar power can also only work in some places and only at certain times of the year. Solar power is also very hard to maintain. If we stop using plants for power we might be able to solve food problems in other countries by selling leftover crops instead of turning them into fuel. Wind power is not very reliable and cannot produce power on demand.
-DT

I believe that nuclear power is going to be the best source of power in the near future because of all the great stuff about it. First of all, there is already many nuclear power plants, meaning that it would be easier to switch over to nuclear power. Second of all, there produce almost as much power as current fossil fuels, and it's pretty renewable. Lastly, nuclear power is reliable. The energy isn't going to cut out randomly due to no sun or wind. The cons though, are that it is obviously dangerous, with radioactive waste, and can effect the environment. Also, the initial factory takes a lot of money to build, and a long time. I hope you listen to this and realize this is realistically the best option for the future.
-Conley

In time things will be made that require lots of energy so if we do water power over the many sources of water we could make much more energy. There is Niagra falls with so many gallons of water flowing that if we made a station there it could provide so much energy with no air pollution. Water can be recycled so it can be used over and over without running out. But all renewable sources can harm the environment in the making of an air source the ground will be dug up, depleting the soil if a tree was on the spot removing it. Water sources harm animal life, it might stop a fish from going downstream and mating.
-Rome

I think solar power would be the most beneficial and useful in the future because of solar panels. Solar panels can use the energy from the sun and reuse it for other purposes. Solar energy might be expensive, but it would be very useful to Earth. Others might say that hydropower would be better, and I agree but hydropower depends on the water cycle, which means that solar power can actually power the water cycle. You need solar power (the Sun) to make the water cycle run. How else would the water evaporate? Solar power is reliable and it's the most beneficial because it can also help other renewable energy sources. -Ava Zhao

I think that solar power will be the most beneficial in the near future. Solar power is produced by the Sun, so it won't run out. Solar radiation has been used for years for many different things. Now, technology has been invented that can turn solar energy into electricity. Solar energy is already used to heat water, buildings, and more. Solar photovoltaic devices are used to convert sunlight directly into electricity which can be used on something as small as a watch to something as large as a house. Some reasons why I chose solar energy is because solar energy does not create air pollutants or carbon dioxide. Another benefit is that solar energy systems on buildings don't affect the environment as much as other energy sources. Even though there are good benefits, there are some limitations as well. One of the limitations is that the amount of sunlight isn't consistent. The amount of sunlight varies due to location, weather, time, and seasons. Additionally, sunlight produces a small amount of energy, so more land would be required to collect useful amounts of energy.
- Claire Seematter

I think over time hydropower could easily become the most useful. First, solar power is only useful during the day. My second reason is nuclear power could easily cause death, destruction, and chaos. Definitely not fossil fuels because of C02 emissions, and wind power is not consistent. Even the tiniest bit of speed in water would generate some power(Even your faucet. Think about that for a second😂). Plus we could easily harness the ocean waves to generate lots of power. Even if it's not perfect, it could power many things in the future. Finally, unlike biomass which wastes grains or other crops, modern hydropower machines not only don't waste water, but desalinate water so humans, plants, and animals can drink(and recycles salty water within the machine so it can keep running without new salty water for a while.). -Mehul

I don't think wind energy would be good because wind turbines can kill birds and bats and it's usually even more expensive than solar power. I also think water energy is good too but water isn't everywhere on land so it would be hard to get water energy in some places. Biomass would be okay too but to get energy from plants, you first have to grow the plants. This is why I think solar power will be the best in the future.

-Katie

Also, there won't be many changes in the current. Therefore, the energy coming from hydro power will be more consistent than other natural energy sources. Some risks are that, it probably will not provide for worldwide energy use because of the power of the currents.

I wondered if wind power would be the best. I mean, it obviously isn't cost-efficient as of now. However, looking into the long term, wind power would be one of the top energy sources in the future. It is worthwhile to notice that around 8.4% of the total utility-scale energy in the U.S. is being produced by wind turbines. Electricity generation from wind power has increased from about 6 billion kilowatt-hours to over 337 billion kilowatt-hours in the span of 20 years (2000 - 2020). That's an increase of around 16.55B each year. The fact is that the cost of wind power is also being lowered as more and more countries participate.

Wind power is infinite as long as the Earth is alive. It is easily accessible since much of the world has some form of wind. It can even be built on pre-existing lands, such as ranches and farms. This would reduce the amount of wilderness that was taken down for energy-producing factories and buildings. Wind energy is clean, as there is no sort of liquid or chemical exchange happening during the process. It creates no pollution. Building wind turbines is less damaging to the environment than coal mines would have. They aren't created using many chemical components that would be bad for the environment if let out, such as solar panels. Solar panels contain photovoltaic cells, which are valuable resources that would go to waste if thrown into landfills after the solar panels broke down. They (solar panels) contain things like lead. Those things can be toxic to the environment if they were to be put into a landfill. Wind turbines are easy to maintain and to take down if necessary. Other forms might not be.

There's the possibility that if we were to use wind energy more efficiently, whether it be by creating better machines, using less electricity altogether, or creating more ways to use wind energy plus other forms of energy as a combination, we'd have a never-ending source.

I believe that wind energy is best, but it would be most convenient to not rely on just one, but multiple forms of clean energy sources. This is so that if we were to ever (for any reason) have problems with wind energy, there'd be backups.

- Pranjal

I think that in the near future the best energy source will be wind. First of all wind turbines do not cause air pollution which is really good for the environment. Using wind as an energy source will reduce the amount of electricity we are generating from things like fossil fuels which are harmful to the environment. Solar Power can only work at certain times but wind power is almost always there it is also one of the reasons why wind power is so reliable. Wind power is also one of the cleanest energy sources. If you look at the growth in the use of wind power it will shock you because in 1990 the amount of electricity generated from wind was 1% but in 2020 it was 8.4%. It might not seem like a not lot but that was just in the US. China was so positive about wind power that has invested so much in wind power that it has the world's largest wind electricity generator. These are just some of the reasons why wind power is so reliable. 16 countries generated about 3.6 billion kWh of electricity from wind in 1990 but in 2010 105 countries generated nearly 340 billion kWh. This shows not just how many countries used electricity generated from the wind but the amount of electricity generated from the wind. In the gap of twenty years from 1990 to 2010, we had a growth of 336.4 billion in generating electricity from wind. Wind power is clean and reliable which is why it should be the best energy source in the near future.
-Shubham
