The article “Spying on Children Won’t Keep Them Safe” written by Jim Shultz focuses on a specific facial recognition software that could be used by schools to identify school shooters, suspended students, or child predators. The software under scrutiny is called Aegis, developed by Tony Olivo to track and map students. The technology costs 1.4 million dollars to install, which Shultz calls extreme. “While it will automatically notify the police if it detects a gun (unless it is hidden in a backpack), the district would have to accurately predict who a school shooter will be in advance, get his picture and load it into the database.” The school would also have to profile students and put them into a database that could be compromised by hackers, and it would have all the students information. Aegis has the capability to track and map a students path in the hallways, which would mean if a hacker got a hold of the information in Aegis they would be able to know which hallways could be used for easy entry to attack the school. Schultz explains that he does not enjoy the idea of Aegis controlling all of a students information.

Also known as “cyber rape” girls pictures are posted on websites without there permission. The websites would include humiliating women with awful rude comments under their nude photos. Next to their nudes were links to their Facebook, Twitter and Myspace accounts.

It says “That someone from within the unforgiving, secretive Chinese leadership would take the enormous risk of leaking 403 pages of internal documents to a Western newspaper is in itself amazing, especially since the documents include an 11-page report summarizing the party’s investigation into the activities of Wang Yongzhi, an official who was supposed to manage a district where Uighur militants had staged a violent attack but who eventually developed misgivings about the mass detention facilities he had built” ( Konrad 1).
