He was born in 1919 into a family of musicians and was influenced to be a singer. This picture is showing people most likely in the working class based on their clothes. They may have just got back from a rally wanting to bring home the soldiers based on the sign that says “bring all the troops home now”. These lyrics also show that the singer is not a supporter of the Vietnam war because he is against giving up US soldiers lives to the Vietnam war.

Bringing the soldiers home was a big issue for the majority of the people against the war (Doves), even though the people wanted to leave the war, the presidents, and politicians did quite the opposite and escalated the efforts for the war before finally leaving it behind.

It says bring em home 46 times throughout the song which shows that he believes that we should bring our soldiers back. This is social because it is about the people who are in the war and the families who want them back. This obviously was a big issue during the war, being that politicians had the belief of the “domino effect.” many protests became infuriated  with these politicians who were sending out these soldiers to a war. This again shows that the song writer is against the war because he makes this point.
