Dakota Avenue are a college band, who named themselves after the street the college is on. Their music style is liquid indie and they have just released their first ever single 'Marianne'. With them just releasing a single, they were in need of a music video to go with it so we thought this would be a great chance for us to gain some experience and exposure and do them a favour as we do all go to the same college.
For this shoot, my job is part of the post-production, I am not necessarily part of the actual filming, however I will be there to give advice and help if needed. But my role is to co-edit the final video.

This video is going to be filmed around the outside of college near the roadside where the sign for 'Dakota Avenue' and around an old skip.

Originally the band wanted to use a college student to portray Marianne in the video, however this became an ethical issue as even though the girl was more than happy to play the part, we couldn't let her because as she would have to portray herself in a negative way, as the song is about a girl who is pregnant and uses drugs and she was a Minor, therefore it would be irresponsible for us to let her portray herself in that light.
A legal issue with this video was getting permission from the band to use their audio track in the background, which we got, but if we didn't get permission we would have had to film an acoustic version for their music video.

We have already discussed with the band what style they would like the video to look like. We have collectively decided to shoot an Indie style video where there is a mixture of footage, some of them performing and some of them doing anything but that. When it comes to filming the random parts, we are going to be spontaneous and not plan anything, this way we will get the most authentic result.

Deadpool is an action/superhero movie created by Marvel but it's trailer isn't like most other Marvel trailers. Deadpool fits into the genre of both action and comedy making the film quite 'Slapstick'. This is evident through the crude humour and use of hip-hop music instead of the stereotypical superhero music used throughout the trailer. This also makes people aware that this movie is nothing like any other Marvel movie and it is going to be unique. Using a mixture of both handheld, rough camera shots and fast cut editing the trailer makes the film seem exciting and action-packed. I believe this trailer and movie is aimed at men between the ages of 15-30 due to the fact that the film is full of action with the presence of guns, violence and torture scenes which is a predominantly male genre of film. Also the humour used is aimed at adults, so young children wouldn't understand the comedy aspect of the film. This trailer shows that Deadpool is not like an other superhero but there is one trait that Deadpool has just like any other hero - a superhero suit. Deadpools suit is red which may represent anger as the film is about a man on a revenge mission, but it could also represent the danger he is subject too during his search for his enemy Ajax. The red colour could also represent the romantic undertone of the movie, it isn't specifically a romantic film but it is based around Wade seeking revenge so he can reunite with his girlfriend Copycat again. There is a short snappy scene where you can only see Deadpools silhouette, this is purely to exaggerate the fact that he carries two large Katana's as his weapons to appeal to fans of the comics as he carries the same weapons in the comics. Low-key lighting is used in the depressing/sad scenes. One example is when Wade is telling Copycat about the extent of his cancer and trying to joke about it. This is common throughout the trailer - whenever there is a sad scene the lighting tends to be low-key. This is to portray the darkness that comes along with the situation as it makes you focus more on what is actually happening and what is being said in that scene. During most scenes that contain low-key lighting. Low-key lighting is also used when Wade reveals his disfigured face to his friend Weasel, this is so the audience can't help but stare at his face as there is nothing going on in the background. As well as different types of lighting in the trailer there is also a range of different angled shots ranging from wide angle to close-ups. The scene mentioned above where Wade reveals his face uses both low-key lighting and a close up angle, this is to really exaggerate and show the audience Weasels reaction to Wades new look. The scene where Deadpool is on a highway attacking men who work for his enemy is a high, wide angled shot to show the amount of power Deadpool actually has, and that one man has created so much damage and destruction in such a small amount of time. The opposite of this is shown later on in the trailer. When the audience is introduced to Colossus it is a low-angle shot and is also in the P.O.V of Wade, this portrays that Wade has minimal power over Colossus as he towers over him in the shot.

OUTLINE
The idea for this music video is a fun and relaxed vibe. The video will start with the band walking around, laughing and talking to each other. The video will then progress to the band playing their song, Marianne, with their instruments. This will be shot in front of a grey fence as it is an interesting background, and the floor is a solid, flat surface that is pretty clean. This scene will be cut between the band playing their song again, on the other right side of the pavement shown on the picture to the left.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The plan is to make the video look cheaply made, to show that students have produced it. This will ensure the video appeals more to our target audience, which is teenagers. The secondary target audience will be young people. The band makes music to the genre indie rock. The lyrics and tune are related to an indie target audience, and the video will aim to back up this.

There was a draft version made before the final product where it features the band performing the song with instruments, however, the band were not so keen with the footage of them performing and asked if we could make an edit without those parts. I took the lead on the new edit, with help from others too. What I did was open version 1 into Adobe Premiere and took out almost every single clip that contained the band performing and left in the fooling around clips.
However to fill in the gaps made from cutting out the performing clips was very hard. It was difficult as the clips we hadn't already used were initially put in the 'unusable' folder meaning they were either not relevant, or blurry, so I had to go through every second of footage with a fine-tooth comb to scout for any useable footage but it was a great way to test my problem-solving skills.
When editing, I used strong cuts between footage and didn't use any effects such as 'Crossfades' as I wanted the video to be fast-paced and I thought crossfades would contradict this. Even though the band didn't like the footage where they are playing instruments I still kept some in as it helped tie up the video.

This ident is from BBC one and consists of a forest and a group of mystical creatures that come together to create a circle in the middle of the sunlit woodland. The main colour scheme in this ident is green and brown, this is because green and brown are colours that generally represent nature, linking the colour scheme and the theme together. The ident starts off with low angle shots skimming across the scene, establishing the shot then turns into the nature and fairies circling around to create the trademark circle shape BBC ident's are known for. The circle represents unity and the world as a whole, bringing people together and showing how they broadcast everything for everyone. It is quite a peaceful scene, with twinkles and flowing movements from the mystical creatures, creating a relaxed vibe meaning this ident was most likely used for shows that are also quite relaxing such as Animal and nature shows. This type of ident would not be used for crime shows as it does not represent the rough and tumble nature of that type of show. This ident would also be used according to the time of year, this particular one would be used around spring time when Nature starts to flourish again after a cold winter. The Nymphs and fairies represent life and fresh hope. This ident's sound is non-diagetic as the sound has clearly been added during post-production. It has a gentle, calm song to match the theme of the ident.

During filming, I was responsible for controlling the reflector to reflect the light and reduce shadows as we had bad weather on our filming day. I only held this role for half of the shoot, and I decided to only use the reflector during close up shots as without it the band's faces were just too dark. We didn’t use the tripod most of the time as this helped towards creating the indie vibe of the video, this meant the camera had little time to adjust correctly to changes in light, so the reflector helped make up for this.
These shots were at the times of: 0:24, 0:30, 0:31, 0:44, 0:48, 0:56, 1:10, 2:26, 2:41, 2:43.

When it came to editing, I originally had a backseat role, however, the first edit of the video was not what the band was looking for so I then stepped up and took control of the new edit. I took it into my own hand to think up the look of the new version. Instead of starting completely from scratch with the editing and wasting a lot of good editing, I decided the best thing to do was to change and replace the parts of the video the band were not keen on which were mainly the scenes where they were performing with instruments. This became a lot more efficient way of creating a whole new style of the video.

If this film had a certificate I would say it was suitable for all ages, so much so it could be played on a music channel any time of the day. There is not offensive language, body language or negative behaviour. It is purely just some guys having fun and laughing with each other. When the band first asked us to film their music video their original plan was to have a woman star in the film to play the role of the girl who the song was written about who got pregnant at a young age and was addicted to drugs, but we suggested they change the idea as there was a few ethical issues that came along with the idea, we also asked them to reconsider the idea because we really wanted to make the video suitable for all so they could reach a wider audience.
If this video was to be shown to the public, I would start by putting the video onto YouTube so it can gain its first initial views as this is what many artists such as Meghan Trainor and Justin Bieber did when they first started out. Then after the band gain in fans and supporters I would consider putting all their material on VEVO where they can have their own official channel as this is the general path most singers take when they become more popular
