Today I learnt a lot about the red mangroves and how they have adapted to the environment where they're living. Another thing that I take from today is the knowledge about the delicate ecosystem of the coral reefs. Both the reefs and the mangroves have been actively destroyed by human activity, but they still find ways how to survive and multiply. This beautifully illustrates how flexible nature is but also how important it is to protect it. I've always found all types of UNESCO sites worthwile to visit and Cul-de-Sac Marin was no exception.

I use the old shipwreck as a metaphor. Because this broken object, which is actually no longer usable, has become a new home for fish. I like the idea that something that seems broken and useless to some still serves a purpose for others. I'm already familiar with the system of using shipwrecks around the world to create new coral reefs. In this way, people can still do something useful with their waste and perhaps at least repair a little of the damage that they have generally caused themselves. The variety of fish and corals that colonize such a wreck is impressive.
