         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Foreign intervention by France and Spain was very important in influencing the outcome of the American War of Independence</li><li>It seems unlikely that the American colonists alone could have won the war without help from france. </li><li>Combined with the competence of American military leaders are all reasons why American success may have been a possibility, which is why foreign intervention was very important, but not completely essential, as it tipped the scales in the colonists’ favour.</li><li>The British were forced to engage their navy against much stronger Franco-Spanish fleets around India, at Senegal, in Africa, in the West Indies, and around Gibraltar, in the Mediterranean, amongst other places. This meant that the British had to spend more money on troops and supplies in order to keep fighting the war. </li><li> This spread already weakened British forces thinly around a large part of the globe, and greatly decreased any chances of British success as a result; resources became even more so to cope with the now global war as can be seen by the great increase in expenditure after Franco-Spanish involvement. </li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

Due to the high debt that was caused to the British by the involvement of the French, they were not willing to spend more money and that forced them to give up. Also, the Americans would have won any of the important battles such as Yorktown and Saratoga battles without the help of outside factors. For example, the shortage of supplies that Britain had and the help of the French military officer Baron von Steuben.
