My heart has found love in the smiles of two little girls. My god sister and my niece. It is in their smiles and laughter that I am reminded of all of the joys in life. I am reminded that the freedom of Black girls and their dreams are the reason why I stay in rooms that don’t feel comfortable. So yes this heart, my heart, too has found love in the smile of 2 Black girl dreamers. Whose love and laughter I look to emulate everyday.

I think that this was a very powerful piece and the way that you delivered it was even more powerful. From the way you moved your hands to the facial expressions, I could feel every emotion. Some of the things you expressed in the poem reminded me of my mom and her life, and how she has desires to be happy and have the life she deserves.

Listening to the poem felt like a healing process to me. At first, it’s all intense and the feeling of anger takes over. Then you have to remind your self to relax and breathe. In the process of breathing you have you’re reminded “do you want to be well sweetheart”

There were moments where she would have more intensity in her voice than others. If we relate it to music, it made me think of a crescendo and decrescendo and the purpose of those musical techniques.
