Subject
- the subject of the poem is a young boys perspective on turning ten, we think this because of the title of the poem and what we can inference from the language uses the weiter has produced.

Theme
- we believe that the two main themes of this poem are, reality can hit us hard and no matter how young or old we are we will always look back to our early memories. We think this because in the poem the boy stated in stanza two that 'you tell me that it is too early to be looking back, but that is because...'.

Imagery
- throughout the poem we imagine a young boy staring out of the window sadly, looking back on memories wishing he was young again. We think because of the decription used in stanza three.

Language
- the writer has used varies of language features to enhance their writing. For example there are complex descriptive words throughout the poem like sadness, drained, solemly, complexity and simplicity. One of our favourite language feature in the poem is the last stanza around a powerful metaphor.

Tone
- the descriptive language and choice of words suggest the voice is sad and regretfull. The poem suggests this because of the regretful personal voice expressed.

Structure
- this poem is structured in five stanzas each expressing how the boy feels about turning ten. Each stanza has various amounts of lines based on how much detail the writer produces.

S - The subject of the poem is about the narrator growing up and how he feels about it. The things he says in the poem shows that he isn't happy about it is "The whole idea of it makes me feel like I'm coming down with something..."

T - The theme gives off a depressing feeling about what going on. It shows that the boy is going through hard times.

I - The image it gives off is that the boy is sick because of when it says "... the kind of measles of the spirt, mumps of the psyche, a disfiguring chicken pox of the soul." It also gives off the image that he's tired and lost all of his energy and that he felt powerless like he could do anything. At the end when it says "It seems only yesterday I used to believe there was nothing under my skin but light. If you cut me I would shine. But now when I fall on the pavements of life, I skin my knees. I bleed." He realises he has his limits and imagination isn't everything, as he's hit by reality.

L - There's a lot of metaphors that help describe how the boy is feeling. Eg. The whole first stanza. There is also a use of personification in stanza three when talking about the bike and treehouse.

T - It's in the perspective of a boy turning ten. Maybe at this point he's a little older, but it still shows how nostalgic he is about growing up.

S - It is structured just like any other poem. The first stanza explains his feelings, while the second is about his nostalgia, the third is about how sad he is about losing all his childish energy, the last two are about how he is now.

:3

The metaphor "But now I am mostly at the window' expresses how the narrater is bored of life.

Tone- The tone expresses how the personer is feeling which gives us an clearer image in our head. "Watching the late afternoon light" is set in the afternoon which means the tone will be deeper as it is heading to night time. This sets the rest of the poem being quiet and sad.

Structure- This poem consists of 5 Stanza's. The first Stanza is about childhood sicknesses which gives an idea that something bad is happening with the thought of turning ten.
