In Week 5, we have been introduced to the knowledge on page design, the do's and the don't's and how to make a page readable and pleasing to the eye. 
 
To test your understanding, you are required to find a story page in a local newspaper of 2017. Similar to the previous task, select one page that has more than one story. Take a picture and share on padlet what do you think about the page design. Is it good or bad? What would you suggest to make it more attractive?

This story used  tabloid grid which have five column.The tabloid grid  is more effectively and  popular with reader than broadsheet grid. This page have two story  that made up of vertical and horizontal line. In addition, this pages is with art because it keeps all story in shapes rectangular  as modular pages design and give a dominant images.The sizes of headlines used are different and readers can spot the dominant story in the pages.Other than that, i think this story was very simple and readers can understand it . In my suggestion , I think the designer can add a lift out quote to attract reader and the pages can look more interesting.

This page design was interesting because it consists with a clear image and it leads to be called the page with art. Every page’s design at least must contain one-third art in order to make it interesting and attract the readers. This newspaper has a tabloid grid design. However, it used a bastard column measures. This design is effective to show that the story is different. But, too much bastard can make the readers confuse. The designer should be careful and always make it properly. The designer used boxing stories to give a visual emphasis that the story is special. There are 4-columns that were used in this page. Last but not least,every design must according to credibility and flexibility for the designer to design the story to make the readers enjoy when reading the story.

It is also a design page without art and a modular page design with 5 modules. 

            In my opinion, this page design is moderate. The good part is the grid itself. In this page design, it touched both type of lines which is vertical and horizontal lines. Furthermore, it’s also applying basic design principles; the strongest story goes at the top for the story placement and the lead story has the biggest headline.

            As to make it more interesting, I suggest that they should put more photos especially for the highlighted story. This will attract the reader’s attention to read the news. Also, they can add some advertisement to make it more cheerful.

It contains two stories and one advertisement. This page uses tabloid grid with 4-columns format and an advertisement is placed at the bottom-right of the page. The headline sizing are different for both stories as the lead story has the biggest headline while the other one has much smaller headline. Apart from that, it can be seen that most of the stories are kept in rectangular shape and it makes the page design looks good.

But some paper use 7, 8 or even 9 column grids. The designer keep all story shapes rectangular and each story is different on it size. In this page have 4 modules. The text on each story is not too long so that can attract audiences to read that page. On each story provided a photo to make readers more clear about the story. However, there is a problem with over lapping modules, so the designer fixes the story by shading or boxing one of the stories. In my point of view, this page design pleasant to be read because there is a photo on each story, the text is fit or short and no advertisement on this page.

The style of grid is made up vertical lines and is foundation of every type of visual media. It also shape the content of news into proportions. The readers feel comfort and give pleasing design for the eye. The page design for broadsheet can come with variety of grids. The news shaped modular .design which form rectangular units. This paper also consist the use of ears which give some attention to the readers. The headline is nice which art play a good roles as an attraction for the broadsheet. There are two photos which one the biggest photo act as the dominant image. The size of headline for each stories are different based on the importantness of the story.

In my point of view, this page is quite bored to read as the font of the headline is so thin which make people did not notice the headline itself. Then, there are too many mugshot in a short story which is quite miserable and unpleasant to the eye. It is better to put one mugshot for one short story. The photos in the page are quite interesting and may attract the readers to take a look at the photo and the story.

 For me, this page design is quite interesting and the stories are arrange neatly to attract reader’s attention. It is also pleasing the eyes of reader because the editor keep the story in rectangular shapes so it is easier to reader to read that story.

Based on what I was viewed from this page, it used a 6-column grid and this is usually most broadsheet used. The headlines are free from tombstoning and jumphead, but many headlines in this page are using the same size that make reader confuses the stories. There are also air in the end of headlines that not pleasing to the eye. Besides that, there are eight modules in this page. It has a lot of story in that page but it still pleasing because the stories are fit which is the text and photo is trimmed. It also doesn’t have any ad in that page. Anyway, for my opinion, this page design is still good which it keep all story shapes in rectangular, shapes and sizes are varies, have a dominant image, balance and pleasing to read.

For the first modules, designer used kicker style headlines with the cutline below the picture and it also put quotes to attract the readers.  Besides that, the text of each story not too long and on each story provided a picture to make readers more clear about that story. Overall I think, this page has some interest because it has picture and designer make fit to this story with mug short and series logo. This page design able to attract readers because every stories and picture are neatly arranged.

The designer include another photo at the below such as hot air balloon and Sunway Lagoon that can attract the reader. In my opinion, overall this newspaper had a good page design. The tabloid grid usually roughly half the size of broadsheet. The page of newspaper had 5 column format. The writer uses design pages with art where it keep all the story shapes of rectangular. This page also consist a dominant image and it attract by butting headlines. The modular design in the pages story is 4 modules where the idea of treating stories. The first and second modules uses the main headlines while the third modules uses hammer and the forth modules uses advertisement.

In my opinion, I think this page is so attractive because the design in neat or arrangement order but the lack of attraction photo to me.
