It is without a doubt that “Leadership is one of the biggest challenges not only in our industry but to the rest of the world, we live in” (Eastman, n.d.). Without the work environment, leadership skill is still also important in our own lives. The human being is their own leader. Over the past few weeks, my leadership experience has evolved based on what l learned and practiced from IHMN 354- The leadership experience, as well as my degree of mindfulness. This is because l got a better grasp of what Leadership really is and the different aspects of the leadership experience’s structure. I have also developed various skills based on my understanding of follower-ship. In my point of view, it is necessary to understand how to be a good follower since all leaders began with the followers' position. Similarly, l have learned that Emotional intelligence has a huge effect on people’s career and work life. The purpose of this article is to present my own leadership vision, the two leadership goals l want to achieve and the action plans l implemented to reach the goals.

I am an undergraduate student with less work experience. With my limited experience and what l learned from the leadership experience class, l found out that it is really important to know how to be a follower firsthand. It is crucial for the people with the same situation like me. Every leader starts working as a follower. It is a really a good experience to learn how leaders do with their job. Although not all leaders have Good Behaviors, followers can still learn and choose what types of leader they aspire to be. As a result, knowing to be a good follower is a necessary step before becoming an effective leader.

From the textbook, l learned that management and leadership are different. Although both of them is focused on proving direction for the organization, leadership, on the other hand, can

effectively connect with the follower by providing a future that no one would give up and support them to face the challenges and opportunities with the farsighted strategies helps to achieve the setting goals (Daft& Lane,2016).

One leadership goal I set for me is to increase my social awareness. One major contributor that leads to social awareness is developing empathy by spending more time understanding what others’ think. As Daft and Lane (2016) pointed out that leader’s good with social aware practices empathy which stands at others' angles of thinking things, feel what others' emotions, understand the viewpoint made by others. In order to develop my empathy, the first step l would like to take is to be an effective listener. I excel at making ideas and l am always think l am right. Sometimes l may ignore team members’ opinions or ideas. If that personality l move to the future leadership position, it will definitely turn me into a bossy leader. In my point of view, a good leader need also be a good team player. In order to be a good team player, leaders should be open-mind on either opinions and criticisms (“10 Leadership Goals Examples,” n.d.). It is an easy way to helps the team to grow, and also make a relationship between team members closer (“10 Leadership Goals Examples,” n.d.).

Another personal leadership goal for me is to develop my self-awareness. The reason why l decide to choose this as my second leadership goal is self-awareness can help individuals to know themselves better. Moreover, individuals with good self-awareness ability will act more consciously when they are facing challenges or situations other than act passively, because they know what they can do and when they will stop (“What is Self-Awareness and Why is it Important? [ 5 Ways to Increase It],” 2019). From the textbook, l learned about that self-awareness is the ability to “accurately assess your own strengths and limitations” (Daft& Lane,2016). In order to develop my ability to self-awareness, l set up an action that will help me improve this ability. I will ask feedback each time after finishing work. It is a good way to let the individual find out what is the performance of what they are doing. Feedback gives individuals a chance to identify the strengths and weaknesses and change it (Daft& Lane,2016).

In my point of view, a management position title would not help to build a leader. Since there is no easy method to make it happen, it is essential for workplace juniors like me to start now to gain experience and practice abilities. With the clear knowledge of leadership experience and the leadership goals l set for myself, l feel confident and is looking forward about my future career life.
