In your experience, what is the best technology for the ESL or foreign language classroom to help students learn a new language?

In my experience, interactive technology got my students up and going. Technology like Kahoot got my students highly engaged in learning things like vocabulary, while any new concept taught in a language learning perspective worked too. Videos related to ESL (YouTube especially) were used often and my students actually enjoyed them. My students did a lot of oral presentations, so they used PowerPoint or Slides often as well, and of course they used translators. Other than that, there are websites that specifically offer ESL resources, for free, that would help for lesson ideas, my favorite was iSLCOLLECTIVE. iSLCOLLECTIVE has a section where you can access interactive video lessons and even make your own around any video. My students would do the video lessons on the Smart Board. It is fun!

I would imagine that students that are learning a new language would still enjoy the same technology that native English speaking students. As their teacher it would be up to you to modify the technology to fit the students learning needs. Interactive activities on the smartboard would be one way to get students involved.

I have no experience in ESL, but I would also agree with Araseli that anything interactive would help motivate students. It would be difficult for me to comment on certain resources but with Araseli's experience she would be familiar with several resources that she has used.

I believe Duolingo could still be used in this situation to help boost learning.

Also, emersion helps as well. Encourage students to listen to Music, watch videos, etc. That way they will learn more.

I don’t know a lot of technology for that area, but a teacher I know loves this app Class dojo. Class Dojo is a great app to use for parent communication. You can change the language so they can understand any messages you send. This allows the teacher to communicate with parents that she can’t normally talk to.

It is great to read all the messages about tech tools. In an ESL classroom, I would imagine, creativity would be the key. Learning a new language is difficult for anyone. I think the interactive whiteboard and using youtube would be a great way to assist with learning a new language.

I do not know how an ESL classroom really works but I would think any interactive program would help. We use a program in our class called Quizizz that our students just love. They also enjoy BrainPop.
And I love what Ashley said about music. That would be another great way for students to learn a new language. I can still sing Frer A Jacques (I know that is not spelled correct. LOL)
