What Happened

This Spill happened on April 20, 2010, in the Gulf of Mexico. It was one of the most environmentally damaging oil spills in history. BP caused it as a blowout was in progress. This blowout caused an uncontrollable oil spill that was located in Macondo, which is 5,000 feet below the surface. An explosion killed 11 oil rig workers and sunk the rig.

This Horrible incident Caused many problems with our wildlife and the triple bottom line. This oil that was released into the gulf had a big reaction on our fish mainly the Fish and Plankton the oil has toxic chemicals that killed many fish which caused fishing to get put on hold in this area as it is unsafe to take the change to catch and eat a toxic fish that could danger them and others. This doesn't only hurt the company that suffered this big loss but also the fisherman that may be living off fishing. as shrimp, Whales, dolphins, and sea turtles suffered lifelong injuries and can contaminate their babies as well. That's a big effect on people and wildlife but, The planet suffered a lot as well by losing a big supply of oil and crew members this can cause their separate problems like getting sued and stuff like that but the planet which is already getting lower and lower on oil every day so losing such a big amount to expect its about 205.8 million gallons lost and spilled into the gulf, which is the biggest gulf in the world that has fishing, trades/transport, travel, and a lot of site seeing of the coast of the gulf as well this affected all of that.

We've covered the People it caused, The planet, and how it was affected That leaves the Profit profit Gulf making for not only the USA but also small businesses and bigger companies that might not even be based in the US because the Gulf is the largest gulf in the world it's used for a lot the USA for transportation of products which can cause ships to be rerouted to take different routes to get to their drop or pickup spots. The small businesses can be affected by the locals fishing or crabbing, and shrimp boats these can stop their way of getting a product which can cause their Profit to stop coming in and their income to be stopped with boat bills pilling up with no income to pay for it this can cause many peoples to go bankrupt or just broke having to find new work and start over as this can take months to years to get a new population of fish to be safe from toxic fish. Although BP paid 20 billion dollars to the businesses. This can shift our production on the planet with the lack of fishing in that area local restaurants and grocery stores could be low on stock and hard to get and areas like that are very driven on the fish, shrimp, and many other species of marine life this can cause so many problems in the society of the coast

There has been 267 oil spills in the gulf of Mexico.
None of the People at BP who were charged with criminal offenses related to the spill received prison sentences.
BP paid 63.4 Billions dollar for their Damages.
The Gulf of Mexico Has not recovered from this spill.
BP stands for British Petroleum Company Limited
Deepwater Horizon the rig was only 9 years old when this spill happened.
Over 30,000 responders helped clean up the crude oil.
Over 16,000 Miles of coastline was affected by the spill Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida were affected

How it changed us

This oil changed them as a team as they all had to help each other do better with their oil use and how safe they are because this little mistake lost a lot of people a lot of money through the gulf this most likely brought people together to find alternant ways to make money or get fish/food.

How they fixed it

They tried their best to clean it up but even 10 years later it's still popping up on beaches. But their method to clean it up started by patching the leak on the rig once that was patched they had already replaced millions of gallons of oil they put "contaminant booms" to stop flow to shore and to help animal and plant recovery. They also did controlled burn of the oil to get rid of it fast and easy. They used manual labor to clean up the oil on the beaches they used shovels and vacuum devices to scoop up the oil from the beach.
