Fantasy of Lights @ Lighthouse Park (Nov + Dec)

A fun community event in support of Goodwill of Southern New England! Many days available through November and December! The Fantasy of Lights relies on community volunteers to man the entryway to the event, collect the admission fee, and welcome visitors each night from November 17 – December 31, 2023.

Our high school volunteer instructors meet once a week with middle school girls to do fun, challenging math as well as act as mentors and role models for these young girls. It is a great opportunity for any female student interested in STEM and looking to give back to the community.

For the upcoming school year, we are hoping to teach groups both in person and virtually, so there will be options for both.

Students volunteering with United Way & Dimeo Construction installed a fence and weeded & planted garden beds to provide children at Dr. Reginald Mayo preschool in Dixwell with a nice outdoor space to read, play, learn and grow! Habitat for Humanity (Construction)

The minimum age to volunteer with HfHGNH is 16.

Looking to learn about bike mechanics & pick up some community service hours in the process? The Bradley Street Bike Coop — just a block away from NHA at 142 Bradley St — has open hours for volunteers:

Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4-7PM

No mechanic experience necessary & you don't have to email anyone! Just show up, introduce yourself, and be ready to be put to work.

Wear clothes you can comfortably move around in & get dirty. BSBC is a lovely community. They teach people about cycling, fix up bikes to sell cheaply (if you need a bike you can get one here!) and donate fixed-up bikes to other community organizations to help people get around New Haven.

The 50th anniversary Cherry Blossom Celebration – hosted in Wooster Square Park on Sunday, April 14 – welcomes volunteers to assist with the flow of the day.

Volunteer opportunities include early set-up, replenishing health and safety products, program distribution, and break down & clean up. There are five shifts (10 am-12 pm; 12 pm-1:30 pm; 1:30 pm-3:00 pm; 3:00 pm-4:30 pm; and 4:30 pm-5:30 pm), but volunteers are welcome to spend the day with us! Lunch will be provided to students who volunteer for 4 or more hours.
