Initially, James McCarthy was one of the main suspects because he was supposedly the last person to see his father alive. Additionally, witnesses claimed to have seen him follow his father into the woods with a gun in his hand. After his father died, McCarthy's shirt had been covered in blood. Due to this, police focused most of their attention on the victim's son. However, upon investigation, Sherlock was able to figure out that there was another man besides the pool where the victim perished. Holmes described the third man as a left-handed man that limps with his right foot. From this, he concluded that the murderer was the victim's old friend.

Summary

Sherlock Holmes sent a telegram to Watson one morning asking him to come help him solve a murder. When Watson got to the location, it seemed clear to him who the murderer was. The main suspect was James McCarthy, the victim's son. Witnesses claimed to have seen him following his father into the woods with a gun in his hand. After the murder occurred, James was seen running out of the woods yelling that his father was dead. James' coat was drenched in blood, which made him seem more guilty than before. However, Sherlock did not believe that James committed the crime. Upon further investigation, Sherlock found footprints at the crime scene that were tiptoes and lead to a rock that could have been used as the murder weapon. Sherlock deduced that the murderer was left-handed with a limp, which was not James. The murderer turned out to be John Turner, who was the victim's close friend.

I really enjoyed this mystery, the thing I found most interesting was the blackmail between Turner and the Victim, I really enjoyed experiencing how Sherlock found out who the real killer was and how he was able to do it so easily.
