As more and more consumers continue to utilize telehealth services, patient care will demand and require an effective process and management of information. Nursing informatics, combined with information technology, as well as the knowledge of nursing and clinical outcomes, will improve the patient care process, through examination of data trends and overall, delivery. Patients can use a variety of tools at their home, including recording their vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation levels, and glucose levels and view that data on a mobile application. Furthermore, as a means for medical compliance, capsules with sensors should be considered a possibility and an app where it records the ingestion event should be available at all times. On the other end, nurses and other health care professionals should receive the same notification and monitor compliancy. Nursing informatics can aid in the process of designing and maintaining the necessary system required for treating patients remotely.

The latest cost analysis exhibits that telehealth continues to reduce hospitalizations and readmissions, significantly. Healthcare costs are reduced as a whole, while the overall patient outcomes have improved. There has been a positive correlation associated with telehealth and patient quality of care. 128 patients who had at least one year pre-IAC impact, had a reduction of 34.5%, which was driven primarily by a reduction in hospitalization rates and hospital days, as well as a reduction in professional services needed and outpatient costs (Healthcare Leadership Review, 2017). Telehealth is beneficial to the elderly population, as well as millennials. It removes the expense of having to travel to a hospital, for those elderly patients that live in a rural setting, where the nearest hospital or clinic could be twenty miles away. For millennials, telehealth is appealing due to the aspect that millennials require less intensive medical medical care, however, are enrolled in high deductible health plans. With the cost analysis of telehealth, millennials can pay $40-60 per “visit”, whereas a physical in person visit can be around $150.
