Pete is an 80 year old who has dementia. 

Pete doesn’t know when he is beginning to get upset so he requires support through reminders to calm down. When he becomes upset he tends to loudly express his feelings verbally. This often happens when he is encouraged to move from his room into the common area. He has a history of grabbing onto fixed items in his room, such as the bed or the lamp, when he has become very upset. He also has a history of grabbing support workers and holding their wrists tightly, restricting their ability to move away from him. 

A plan is required to keep Pete and others safe, to help Pete to recognise how he is feeling and to give Pete strategies to manage these feelings with help from staff. 

The plan should provide strategies that can be put in place to manage Pete’s outbursts. 

Your supervisor asks you to contribute your thoughts and suggestions in regards to the strategies to be included in the plan.
