We have gathered a few examples of very popular tv shows that should be representative of the society we live in, but have a mainly white cast.

of this and their placing as norm they seem not to be represented to themselves as whites but as

Friends - the tv show Friends is about 6 friends who live in new york, the whole series is 10 seasons long, and the only black person on the tv show is one of the main characters (ross) girlfriend. The fat that she is black is not mentioned at all on the show.  accept when she makes a stereotypical comment saying “ you go girlfriend” and then they make fun of her, and the fact that she has never said that in her life.

The two main characters al white people, and the best friend of the guy (Troy) is a black young man, and the best friend of the girl (Gabriela) is a black person too. At the end of the first movie, you can see that the two black friends become a couple. You can see in the movie that they try to show multiculturalism but then the black people are the friends of the protagonist and they are together, as if they just had the option of getting together with their “own”.
