key strategy: empower the poor through training and microfinance. these will improve the the livelihoods of the poor. so that benefits them because it will give them skills so that they can get jobs related to tourism, benefiting from the rise in tourism seen from Bohorok.

Benefits: training locals can learn new skills and use them to get employed. for microfinance, locals will have the ability to set up businesses (homestays/restaurants) to gain employment/income

challenge: The locals might be overfocused on using those methods taught to them in order to get more income, so they might neglect the environment. This will result in negative impacts to the environment (e.g. overfarming, overfishing, deforestation)

solution: authorities and NGOs can further educate them on how to undergo microfinance the right way while protecting the environment

1. limit the amount of tourist that can visit

2. increase the price of the amenities to benefit the locals

   • allowing locals to gain profits

3. have guides go through courses to learn and upskill

4. have experienced local guides for every group of tourist

   • this can educate the tourist

5. government impose laws on tourist so that tourist will abide the laws conserving the natural environment. Allowing tourist to be able to continue to visit natural environment in the long run.

Benefits:

Locals can set up businesses and employment such as

-tour guides to guide them around the national park and village bringing income and preventing economic leakage

-restaurant to provide food for the tourists increase employment and income

-homestays for tourists to stay bringing local income

Challenges:

However, there might be challenges such as:

-inability to generate enough money to sustain the place economically to run their business

-wildlife encounters that will invade tourist areas, scaring the tourists and chasing them away, affecting the tourist safety and experience overall, leading to a potential decrease in tourists, affecting the economy of that area.

-the tourism activities might potentially negatively impact the natural environment

• with increasing prices of amenities, how would u ensure that tourists will still be attracted to come?

• how would you ensure continuity of efforts in conserving nature?

• even when you train the locals, how would u ensure that everyone reaps the same amount of skills and is able to apply these skills to gain equal economic benefits? if ppl cannot gain the same amount of benefits, why would they go for the training?

• some locals may be unwilling to help out and educate the tourists. when there's a demand for manpower but not enough locals are willing to step forward to meet the needs, this would lead to hiring of non locals, leading to leakage. how would you ensure that the job would be attractive enough for the locals so that they will want to take on this job?

concerns: the poor locals in the country may not know what it is for and do not want to join the action or are not confident ( not everyone benefits financially in the community. some earn little frm tourism. villagers lack resources to take on better paying tourism jobs
