He also tries to defend his actions, which doesn't work out for him, as he as a seizure-like panic attack at the end of the story. He killed a man and on top of that he could have not got in trouble but admitted it to the police because he is a madman. We also see him have something like a panic attack at the end. On the other hand we don't know the extent of the lies he tells in the story so he could have been truthful to some extant to.

I trust him to give me a general idea of what happened, but not to give me an unbiased or unchanged story, as the narrator was a madman: he stalked the old man and killed + dismembered the old man, also hiding his body under the floorboards, all just because of one irregularly-looking eye. It doesn't change how I read the story because I'm just absorbing information on what is happening, has happened, and will happen, the plot, and the character(s). The trust level affects the way I understand it though because after I read the story, I can separate fact from fiction of what happened and understand how some parts were made up. I can also understand more about the plot and the character(s) after I analyze the story.

I trust the narrator only a bit because of his mental state. I am able to believe that he killed the man, the police arrived, and that he snuck into the old man's house at night, but I am unable to trust the Madman because he killed the man because of his blue eye. Also, he hears the beat of the old man's heart when the man is dead, so he probably has a mental illness. He has a sort of panic attack because of the beating and points out what he did to the police of all people. It does affect the way I understand the story because I don't know what it would be like from a "normal" person's view, since the narrator is a Madman and tried to justify his sanity by telling us how he chopped of the limbs of the man. If the story was narrated by a man with a healthy mind, it would've depicted a madman killing another man because of the other man's "vulture eye". I am only able to understand the story from the Madman's point of view, and there were no other people present, but if there were, the story would've been more simple and easy to understand and analyze.

I do not trust the narrator of the story at all. He keeps ranting and raving about things that he has done. He also attempts to justify every single action he has taken when he planned to kill the Old Man. However, nothing justifies killing a living person. This affects the way I read and comprehend the story because my perception is in pity of the Old Man. I do not understand why having a blue eye would make the Mad Man kill him, and this story just makes me resent him rather than favor him as the protagonist, as he is trying to make himself look like.

He also murders a old man just because the old man had an "evil eye", which is obviously unjustified. The narrator is mentally ill, after killing the old man he hides the evidence, later police comes and the narrator has a panic attack that leads him into admitting that he murdered the old man. It may be one of my subconcious biases (i can't trust him he is mentally ill) but his actions make me to suspect him. If affects the way I read this story because my understanding is that a madman killed an innocent old man for no good reason, which is subjective.

This affects the way I read the story because if some things he said may be exaggerated or made up. For example, the "vulture eye" clearly isn't that much of a disturbance to someone, so much that they want to kill the man. Also, in the end, the madman "hears" the old man's heart beating but it was really his own.

He is certainly a madman and we cannot always some details in his retelling, but he gives us a general run through of the events that we can trust. We can fill in the rest on our own. It makes the story more interesting as the madman tries to defend himself over and over. It's only easier to analyze our main character because of his mental illness and the way he describes his crime. It would be much more interesting to see a story from the view of a madman than a bland, normal, and unbiased one.
