9. None of the horses budged and so, he left the stable.
10. Then, Black Beauty heard a cry of 'fire' outside and the ostler came in again and rushed out the horses.
11. James carefully and bravely led Black Beauty and Ginger out of the stable, risking his life to save them.
12. The firemen came to put out the fire but sadly, two horses died in the fire.
13. It is believed that the fire was caused by Towler's pipe.

James came along with Ginger, not able to speak while Ginger was coughing.

Two other horses died in the fire and everyone felt miserable.

Lesson to be learnt by the masters- Masters should train their horses for these kind of situations, so that horses know how to react in the future.

A second ostler brought a traveler's horse, where a young man with a pipe lounged in the stables, waiting to gossip. The ostler told 'Towler' to put some hay into the horse's rack.

Meanwhile, Black Beauty was sleeping peacefully until he was rudely awakened, and then noticed the air was thick and choking. Ginger was coughing, the stable was full of smoke, and it was very hard to breathe.

At last he heard steps outside, and the second ostler came rushing into the stables with a lantern, trying to untie all the horses and get them out of their stalls. He seemed to be in quite the hurry.

The horses decided to be extremely foolish at the moment, and later, heard a call of 'Fire!'. James came into the stables and retrieved Black Beauty and a few other horses. Leaving them in the meadow, he went back for more horses.

There was confusion and chaos reigning in the yard. Windows were being thrown up, and people were shouting all sorts of things. Black Beauty then heard a voice, which he recognized as the master's, shouting for James.

In the end, James saved Black Beauty and Ginger's lives, and came out of the debris safe and sound. The fire engine arrived and put out the fire. No one was injured. A successful endeavor.
