Epic!

Epic is an online library for thousands of picture books and readers for students of any age from 3-10. They carry great books in different genres, long series', and even some books that will read themselves aloud to the user. This resource is great for teachers and parents in addition to students, but I put it in this category because of how user friendly it is, meaning even younger kids can navigate it successfully.

Lane Library "For Educators" Page

The Lane Libraries website offers a lot of great resources for teachers and parents, but this resource is great for teachers specifically. This gives the user information on how to apply for a teacher library card, which works at all lane library locations, not just one like a typical library card. It also gives teachers a place to tell the librarians what resources would be helpful to have ready for their students who might frequently do their homework and other assignments in the study spaces at a particular lane library location.

Lane Libraries Wireless Printing

Wireless printing is one of the great resources offered at most lane library locations. This is beneficial for parents because some homework assignments or projects might require a visual component that needs to be printed out. Since not all families have a printer at home, having a place where they can go to print things in black/white and in color for cheap is very helpful. The website also has clear instructions on how to submit print jobs. Teachers could also use this resource, but many schools have printers that all staff can use so I imagine more parents use these printers more than teachers.

The lane libraries also offers online webinars that cover a vast amount of content areas. They have a learn something new section where viewers can learn how to code, plant seeds, perfect their typing skills, and more. They also have an employment section with resources to help users perfect their cover letter, learn how to use Microsoft Word, and other very helpful webinars. They have a bunch of other miscellaneous webinars like drivers education, genealogy, magazine archives, and so many more. This is a great resource for parents to find high quality information about things that can help them improve their current careers or help them find a new one to support their families.

Lane Libraries Virtual Story Time

This page has links to a variety of read alouds on youtube made by employees at the lane libraries, which could be fun for families who frequently go to the library in person and might recognize some of the people in the videos. These read alouds have regular picture books as well as early read alouds made for "baby and me" type events. The videos include fun things that connect to the story like stuffed animals, puppets, etc. that make them engaging for english language learners as well. This resource is great for parents of young kids who might be too busy to read aloud to them every single day. Instead, they can put these videos on a screen for the child to watch and still experience something close to a read aloud.

This resource can be access to anyone in Ohio with a public library card. Similar to epic, it is an online library with books to interest any child ages 3-10. They have many different genres of books, read alouds, graphic novels, and even videos, puzzle, and games. This is a great resource for students because it is super accessible for many families and it is very user friendly and design-friendly for even younger kids. The puzzles, games, and other unique elements can help stubborn kids start to learn to love to read or even get them to do other activities around reading.

As well known as this resource is, it really is an incredible online resource for teachers. Teachers can share lessons and worksheets they made with other teachers. Not only can teachers make a little bit of extra money off this, they also get to share their ideas with other teachers which is really cool. Teachers can also buy lesson ideas from other teachers, which can come in handy especially as teachers become more burnt out the later in the year it becomes and the longer they have been teaching. Overall the sense of community it creates within the teacher community is also really great to see.

They have so many articles that each kid would be able to read about something that is interesting for them. For each article, users can toggle between english and spanish, original and simplified, and they are able to listen to the article be read to them. This makes the articles accessible for english language learners and students at different reading levels. Teachers can also look to see where each article aligns with the common core standards which can help them lesson plan.

Reading bear is a great online resource for teachers of early readers. They have great lessons to teach letter sounds and phonemes. While in person instruction from the teacher is most impactful for students learning to read, something students get bored of listening to the same person every day or they need someone else to explain certain things for them to make them easier to understand. Reading bear gives students a new and different way to consume this vital information. It can also be used by parents who do not have an knowledge on how to teach phonemes but want to give their child extra practice at home.

Reading IQ is a resource that school districts can subscribe to and give their teachers access to. It is an online library with books in multiple genres that are sure to spark interest in every kid who uses it. What makes this website stand apart from other online libraries, is the age range of books. They have titles appropriate for PK-7th grade students. This is still a great resource for elementary teachers because some elementary schools go up to 6th grade and most schools have gifted readers who can read up to a 7th grade level. Having an entire class be able to use the same website is very beneficial.
